Poll: What two big men will be on the Celtics other than Robert Williams?

Post#1 » by Gant » Sat Jun 29, 2019 10:13 pm

This poll needs more than 10 options. It needs about 30.

I'm leaving off Capela because it's almost impossible. I'm also not including names like Myles Turner because as nice as that would be, it's also not happening without heavenly intervention.

I left off unlikely players like Joakim Noah, DeAndre Jordan, DeMarcus Cousins, Sabonis and lots of others. Here's a partial list of available candidates: https://hoopshype.com/2019/06/21/nba-free-agency-2019-centers/

That leaves guys who will be available through low cost free agency or possibly realistic trades.

I'd like WCS. He's limited, but won't come as expensive as Capela.

Dedmond could also be nice, doesn't he shoot threes now?

Although not particularly my preference (Kanter, I mean), I'm guessing Theis and Kanter.

Going by how this off-season has been going I will say the Celtics will keep Theis and sign the most annoying player in the league in Kanter.

I was impressed by how Kanter played in the playoffs, I'd take him.

Jokim Noah really did have a resurgence in Memphis and can probably be had for a veterans minimum. Id tried to get Ed Davis for the 4.6 mil exception. Need a plus rebounder somewhere.

Theis your resign as well.

Kemba, JB, hayward, tatum, davis

Smart, ojeleye, noah, theis, bob williams, and the rooks. Another plus shooter would be great too.

I'd like two out of Ed Davis, Noah Vonleh and Thaddeus Young. No money, though.

Poirier I'm not sure about. He publicly stated he does want to come off the bench.

How achievable is Robin Lopez?

Noah was awesome for Memphis. He would fit Stevens system because he’s a great passer for a big.

We absolutely need a big who can defend. I like Kanter as a scorer and rebounder, but he shouldn't be our priority.

Voted Davis and Theis but I have no idea.

Theis likely since he can be signed with early bird

By the way any news on his QO?

Theis and Ed Davis out of that list.

Kyle O'Quinn, Dedmon and Noah Vonleh would also interest me.

Yeah when I say I was impressed, I mean I was impressed by his defense.

Ok. I didn't see much of the Blazers in the playoffs. Last time I saw him he was terrible on that end

Well it sounds like Capela is in place. He's young-ish, a good rebounder, and has improved year by year while he also has a reasonable contract that wouldn't interfere much with cap flexibility.

Rumors have had Theis back to Europe and we'll have to renounce his rights (eta I guess we wouldn't have to renounce him, so maybe he's back), so I don't really expect that unless he'll take the min (or slightly more than it). Someone tweeted they thought he might be back, and that doesn't sway me much.

Poirier has been rumored, and seems more mobile than Theis. Makes sense.

Danny isn't incompetent enough to sign WCS.

Nene will be 37 and hasn't played much the past two seasons. He is more of a candidate for assistant coach.

Dedmon would be really solid, but probably isn't in a position where he would turn down any extra money that he could find elsewhere.

Ed Davis is an interesting possibility - he's underwhelming enough to come cheap, and yet he played almost 1500 minutes last season while pulling down more than 17 rebounds per 36.

Looney will resign with the Ws unless someone offers him more than 10 mil per IMO.

Lopez bros are decent but meh IMO - plus they'll be likely to find better destinations if they are after more money. Brook stays with the Bucks if he wants to win more than he wants to get paid, Robin might be a possibility but has averaged like 6 rebounds per 36 over the past two seasons.

ETA - forgot Kanter - he can get way more money elsewhere, or he could resign with the Blazers as Nurkic may remain out for a bit, or he could go to the Lakers on a min deal if he doesn't care about finances. I don't view him as a realistic option.

Who could we get for 4.8 million, that is question? A lot of guys will get more, buy I'm sure we can find two.

Yeah I watched pretty much all of the Blazers games cause they were consistently the only close ones. The narrative in the Thunder series was that he was unable to stay on the floor for them, but he played about 30 mpg throughout the playoffs and guarded switches decently well. He ran into trouble versus GSW, but for at least next year with having to worry about Embiid, Gasol, Jokic more so I think he'd be a great fit.

Can they clear up more cap space or that’s it?

One for a bit under 4.8 million, and probably one for the minimum. That's it unless there's a trade.
