East: Extension for Sumner

Post#1 » by pacers33granger » Sat Jun 29, 2019 12:19 am

Not sure how credible the guy is, but I know Indystar was talking about it too.

Read on Twitter

But it seems like the front office may want him getting real minutes as a backup wing. We may be looking for a 3rd string guard where we were planning on a 2nd string guy.

I don’t know his sources but he does seem to get basketball and the business of it much better than most team guys. He used to write for 8pts9seconds but now writes for Forbes’ sports site.

Yeah, I remember him as one of the better writers on 8p9s. Didn't know he left already.

The Sumner news isn't super secret stuff, I guess. It's great that our development program seems to be working. He seemed like a longshot when we drafted him late in the 2nd round. Hope to see more of the young guys come through the pipeline.

I lost my taste for podcasts but wasn't Tony East a regular on the LockedOnPacers cast?

He’s actually getting paid some money now as opposed to the SB Nation affiliate stuff at 8pts9sec where you might get a couple hundred a year total for the entire site.

This is expected. Sumner is up for a major year and I think he'd be a sneaky good fantasy player.

It will be interesting to see how they use him in summer league and preseason.

Have to assume Pritchard would be telling Nate the same thing.

Again, seeing a lot of comparison to Billy Beane giving is coach no other option but to play the roster he built in Moneyball.

Seems like KP might be doing the same thing where the front court players are concerned. Thad will be gone, so coach has little choice other than to play Myles and Domas together. Then again, Nate could decide to go small and start Bogie at PF. Wouldn't that be fun?

It's looking like Nate won't have a choice. If we spend most of our space on Bogie and Rubio, we're still short 2 rotation wings until Vic is back unless Nate tries playing Doug at SG.

That's a really good deal for us. I think the 30th pick this draft (Kevin Porter Jr.) has a contract starting at like $2 mil. So really hard to get numbers that low on anyone with where the cap is.

Yup. Basically puts him as if he was the 31st draft pick in last years draft on a rookie contract. Just guarantees the 2nd to last year a couple months early.

I’m very excited to see Sumner play. Supposedly he’s added a lot of muscle and his defensive versatility is exciting. Also good to see us take care of our own.
