I think it is HIGHLY ironic that a few months ago we were the only team able to offer 2 max cats.

Fast forward a few weeks

Lakers
Nets
Clippers

All cleared space to be able to basically offer 2 max cats

Blueprint was stolen. And we go home with nothing.

I believe that this is The Basketball Gods' way of guiding us and the Knicks towards "The Right Path." Rather than resisting what is about to inevitably happen, just relax the sphincter.

But I do think Randle is in our plans if we miss on the KD/Kawhi combo.
He fills a need and is young. Stats defensively is Kanter-ish but possible for Mitch to help him mask that.
KD at max rehabbing + Randle + George Hill + a backup center like Robin Lopez with the room exception.

Our path is to claw our way to a .509 team by RJs 4th year, and he is a top15, too 10 player.
He will tell the Knicks he won’t sign a max offer sheet.

You mean in terms of Ws? I would consider hoarding assets, getting a top pick and letting the kids develop as improving the team.

Hoarding assets. It will be hard to preserve our cap space until 2021 without lose several assets. If we cap out this year or next year, we could use Birds Rights and First Round Exception to go over the Cap and keep almost everybody in the roster.

The new contracts of Trier, Dotson, Frank, Dennis, Ignas, Vonleh, 3 FRPs will eat pretty much our Cap Space in 2021. To stay 30%/35% under the cap we will be forced to get rid of some assets.

It is probable that eventually we give up the "wait for 2021 strategy" to keep more assets in the roster or trade for a star adding more salary and eating the reserved Cap Space.

Besides, it is not a comfortable situation to rely in Free Agents Star decisions year after year. We dont know for sure who will hit FA in 2021. Its smarter not let your player hit the FA, extending his contract sooner or trading him until mid season. Toronto, GSW, Philly, Charlote, Nets and Orlando took a chance this season. I dont know if teams will keep being so audacious next seasons.

I actually do like Randle, especially if he can keep expanding his range to the 3pt line. Takes a good amount of FTA, can get you 20/8 and shoot over 50%. Can move the rock too with 3 assists per. Just needs to cut back on those turnovers.

But I can’t lie, I’m one of those people who feel this off-season is a failure if we don’t get KD or Kawhi. If we do get Randle, I will still like to keep our flexibility. Can’t give another guy 4yrs 100.
