Lowe: Pacers committed to starting Turner/Sabonis

I saw that Pacersike posted this in the NBA thread, but i feel like this needed it's own topic for discussion.

From Zach Lowe's column about NBA free agency he had added this.

I don't love the fit of Rubio alongside Victor Oladipo and the Domantas Sabonis/Myles Turner pairing. The Pacers seem committed to starting Sabonis and Turner, sources say, which makes Thaddeus Young a goner.

How could they possibly think this would work? With Oladipo out until who knows when, maybe even January, and who knows how long it'll take him to become a go-to guy again, i don't see how the Pacers would find enough shots to win games with this lineup when you add Rubio to the mix.

I presume the idea is to force feed Turner and/or Sabonis shots to accelerate their development. That would especially be the case if Bojan leaves. Signing Rubio, a guy who helps others gets shots while not being a scorer himself, would seem to promote this idea.

Both Turner and Sabonis are stuck at around 10 FGA per game, which is about Thad Young level. That's... kinda low for 2 guys we regard as the future of the team. Got to find out whether they're capable of more. It's sink or swim time IMO.

I am intrigued by this. But I am worried at the potential Rubio pairing with them because teams will load up or play more zone forcing Rubio to take more shots. Its simple math. If you know the point guard isnt a particularly great shooter, additionally is mainly looking to pass then sag on him playing ball denial to his weapons and force him to take more shots. I would think more of a combo point guard capable of scoring/creating would be a better fit ie. (Derrick Rose, D"angelo Russell, Isaiah Thomas, I noticed in another thread someone mentioned Teague). WIth Oladipo out this team will definitely need an aggressive point guard to create spacing and keep defenses honest.
