He takes things a step farther than I would by trading Smart, Brown, Yabu and the Memphis pick for Brad Beal.

Still, really good breakdown of how the trade would work. Really not all that complicated, and all three teams would benefit from doing it, so not understanding why it's getting **** on by some media guys.

Ya know, I liked everything I was reading until the hard cap part. Our center depth would be Theis, Williams, and Tacko Fall. I'm not comfortable with Theis as our #2 guy. Big Bob Williams would have to really step up his game if this was our final roster.

Ok, conspiracy theories abound now. Must be a reason Marcus Morris free agent rumors are dead silent?!? If we keep Morris and Al after getting Kemba, it would be the biggest free agency period heist of all time.

After signing Kemba, the C's have to find a way to get over the cap (an extension for Jaylen Brown, perhaps?) so they can use the MLE on a big man.

Unfortunately, if Kemba is signed into cap room, the standard MLE needs to be renounced.

He's talking about the mle to sign a free agent. Not about trades.

Yes, I guess that's right. To sign Kemba, they have to renounce the MLE, which means they can't use it this year. But if they could sign Kemba for 20M instead of 31M I believe they could keep the 9M MLE and use it if and when they happened to go over the cap.

If you use capspace to sign somebody, the MLE is gone, but you have the option to use the room mid level. This is what we did with Baynes when we signed Hayward. We used cap space so it had to be the room ML.

The way we maintain the midlevel and everything else is to never use the "capspace route". It would be to use the rights we currently have to sign our current players, not cap space to sign another team's players. That maintains the MLE. It would require complex sign and trades (sign our own players and trade them).

If there is anybody that can pull all this off it is somebody like Zarren.

if we go under the cap to sign a free agent, I think we are locked into the room exception until a year from now. We have given up our right to the MLE.

So we can't make any trades that would put us over the cap for one year? I don't think that's right.

It isn't. Trades and MLE obviously aren't the same thing.

Nor, actually, is this a matter of the "hard cap".

I wonder how the timing on things went. First word gets out that Kyrie is leaving. But what next, Horford tells Ainge he wants to leave or at least opt out and look at his options, or Kemba gives word he wants to come here? I'm not asking about the order of tweets and reports but the order they happened to Ainge. I'm wondering if Ainge told Al, look we love you but unless we can make some tricky moves we can't keep you. Go out and see what deals you can get, keep this talk hush hush, and if it all works out we would love to have you back.
