I read this on wiki: " In 2017 the MLE was initially set at $8.406 million in the 2017–18 season for teams that are over the cap either before or after the signing, but under the luxury tax apron, set at $6 million above the tax line. Teams can use this exception to offer contracts of up to four years."

Unfortunately, the timing favors Brooklyn. For maximum benefit from a maneuver to sign a hot FA (whether Horford or an MLE guy), the Cs need the deal done before the target is off the market. So Boston is in a hurry to make a deal.

Do I understand correctly from Woj's tweet that w/ full MLE we could offer up to a 4 year/$39.8M contract (instead of room exception which would be up to a 2 year/$9.7M contract)? Notable to me is that Woj doesn't reference Horford. Looks like we must be targeting Looney or some other big for a 2-4 year contract at about $10/M a year

So if this all works out for us, we eneded up having to pay a first just to swap Kyrie for Kemba. And didn't get AD. It's a million times better than what we were thinking a day ago, and it could all fall apart, but that kind of stings. Wish we could have just traded Kyrie for Kemba last offseason in 20/20 hindsite. I wonder in that alternate universe does Ainge trade Tatum for AD?
