Havent been this excited since the news we traded Erik Williams and a bag of balls for vince carter.

Can't wait for Kyrie to see how Kyrie's game grows under atkinson... looking at what kenny did for spencer/russell/levert and even older guys like horford/carroll/milsap I'm excited for what kyrie will become.

he is such a perfect fit here. does everything russell did only with better shooting and more dimensions. biggest knocks on dwill were efficiency and ability to get to the rim/FT line. Kyrie is a 60 TS% guy who can beat his man 1 on 1 consistency. he has the midrange in the pick and roll like dlo and is arguably more clutch as well.

pick and roll with Allen is going to be deadly... kyrie gives you the pull up off it dlo had with the turn the corner levert had and boths ability to find allen for easy dunks

We have more floor spacing then any team kyrie has been on as well

It feels wonderfully karmic to land our first max player at the expense of both the Knicks & Celtics. Really a huge testament to everything Markinson have built. Since we've had almost a month to consider what this move would mean for us i've resolved that there are 2 uncomfortable risks - 1) injury history 2) losing the team leader who was fully bought in. On the court it's a big upgrade, you just wonder how much of the culture we may be losing potentially turning over so many of the leaders in the lockerroom - DMC, RHJ, DLo, Ed Davis, Dudley. A lot on Markinson to be the glue that keeps things together.

Very curious to see what the follow-up move is. I wouldn't mind in the slightest if the follow-up move was just keeping Russell, trading Dinwiddie for a young big man who fits the system, and signing a few vets to fill out the roster (like Jordan or Davis). That would obviously alleviate most of the concerns above - though it would cap our current ceiling at Portland East (I'd be ok with that).

But that's not what I expect. I think the overwhelming likelihood is that Tobias Harris or Kevin Durant ends up here. Harris in particular seems like an even better fit now considering how well regarded he is as a teammate. Horford would be another very good add, just wonder if he's looking to team up with Kyrie again or start fresh somewhere else.

Very curious to see how the rest of the offseason unfolds.

Yup, injuries are the big concern with kyrie... missed time in the past, smaller and does alot of work at the rim/in traffic. but we have the best medical staff in the league and our performance team should be fine managing his load and keeping him healthy over 4 years. but it is a concern.

losing russell will sting since he helped build the nets to what they are now and made kyrie a possibility. but i think we will keep enough of our core to keep our identity:

Levert, Harris, Allen, Kurucs... thats 4 starters. then dinwiddie, pinson and id assume one of napier or dudley is back on the minimum. prince seems like a perfect nets fit and musa will be back also. Kyrie/Tobias are both 27, so mesh with the 23-28 year old core we have too.

im more concerned with bringing in KD honestly, because he might cost us russell and dinwiddie or harris instead of just dlo which with be the case with a tobias max

That's putting a lot on 4 young guys to keep the culture together. Allen has only been old enough to buy beer legally for a few months and has a lot to work on with his own game. Kurucs is a couple months older but most of us figured he'd be in the DLeague last year. Harris and Dinwiddie are great glue guys who are fully bought in but neither is going to be close in relative stature to Kyrie. Levert is an all around stud, but again it's putting a lot on him to be the tone setter from a culture standpoint when previously there were so many veterans who kept the group in line and kept that pressure off him.

Chemistry is a very delicate balance and the positive vibes of last year's group weren't an accident - it took a lot of deliberate moves over multiple seasons and a lot of hard work behind the scenes. Voluntary workouts together in the offseason, traveling to Vegas in solidarity with young guys in the org, staying in Brooklyn and working out at the facility at all hours.

Russell isn't necessarily the lynchpin to keeping (or losing) all of that, but he's a big piece. As are DMC, Dudley, and Ed Davis. I really hope there's a way to get at least 1 of those guys back in the fold. Dudley probably seems most likely to be in the price range we can afford. Maybe DMC.

I dont think it is putting any pressure on that group... nearly all of them are back and Levert for as overrated as he gets here sometimes on the floor... off the floor he has been outstanding leader for this group... as evidence by the pre-injury and postseason. bringing back 75-80% of the roster will keep that chemistry and coninuity.

which is why ill only be concerned if we get durant and 1-3 more of those guys need to go to make room for his max. but as it stands now, inearly the entire core is together including 4 starters and 6 of our top 7 rotation players

i think dudley will be back. im not worried about davis. DMC i think is the bigger loss but prince i love as a perfect fit and chemistry piece. we can also bring in more vets on the minimum. id be ok bringing back booker maybe

I would love to bring Dudley back on the vet min if he wants to give it another go.

Either way, I'm very excited about our newest addition and can only imagine how fun this offense will be with Irving at the point.

Your math is way off, there is 0 chance 75-80% of the roster is back. That would mean keeping 12 of the 15 guys last year - and that 15 includes rookies like Musa/Pinson who were in the DL most of the time. So calculating based off the other 13 guys, 75%-80% of the roster returning would be losing just 3 or 4 players.

RHJ + Crabbe are already gone. (2)
DLo, Davis, DMC are each 1 foot out the door. (+3 = 5)
Napier and Graham as non-gtd probably gone too. (+2 = 7)
Dudley leaving would be 8.

It is far more likely than not that half of the lockerroom gets turned over (including every veteran leader who has been credited for helping the younger guys develop).

On the court all those guys are easily replaceable (except DLo).

Off the court it's going to be a legitimate challenge to develop the same level of cohesion + chemistry. I'm hopeful more of those guys end up back than we'd currently expect because right now there's a lot less veteran leadership under contract than there's been at any other time since Marks + Atkinson took over.

Sean Marks has historically done a great job of filling out the roster with the right type of vets. Guys who fit on and off the court. Trevor Booker, DMC, Napier, Davis, Dudley, Cunningham. I would love DMC and Dudley back but if they're looking for more money, I'm sure Marks will have plenty of options.

On Kyrie - we're getting an All-NBA guard in his prime. That's absolutely nuts. Someone like that significantly raises your ceiling. Having a deep, scrappy team is always fun. But having the best player on the floor is a game changer.

Boston is doing everything they can to drag him through the mud. It's definitely working throughout the league. Personally, I don't see him being a problem at all. The core is young, unselfish, positive and 100% focused on basketball. Everyone on the team has been benched without any complaints. You'll never catch LeVert and Jarrett Allen partying in Miami before a game. No one's complaining about shots. This group is different.

It's on us to keep the same culture. Help keep him healthy. Surround him with shooters and defenders. Marks needs to tell Kyrie what he told Russell. We don't need him to be a leader. Just needs to be part of the group.

Ugh. I'll just be holding my nose and hoping & praying that virtually every impression I've ever gotten about Kyrie is significantly flawed. And/or that Marks is so overwhelmingly confident in the positive / recuperative aspects of his system, that Kyrie's various problems & flaws will be minimised like never before. Something in that realm, anyway... perhaps a combination of the two.

If Kyrie turns out great with the Nets, do expect to see me eating crow, repeatedly. If not... I've recorded all your remarks for posterity, and each & every one of you can expect the business when the time comes. Just an FYI.

Eh, jk... sort of. I really have nothing to complain about, either way. The job Marks has done in three short years is unimpeachable, and I'm mainly just spoiled as a Nets fan these days.

And he’ll most likely be out for all of the first year of his contract and we don’t even know how close to the KD of old he’ll be.

Put some ‘respeck’ on Kyrie’s name. He’s the Don who orchestrated all of this. The hometown boy just lifted his home state’s original franchise.

Kyrie's problems are exaggerated. Dude is a good player and will do well in Brooklyn. That Celtics team just did not fit together and had problems even when he was not playing.
