Anyway, regarding the Nets, there's a lot of ifs and coulds in my statement. So I'm not saying they did great, but they could have hit a home run if things go to plan.

I hope you are right about Knicks not wanting to give him the max. But recent sources are saying Durant already made up his mind a week ago. I would have liked if the Knicks formally offered a partially guaranteed contract.

In this day and age of guys getting paid $35-45M a year, many of which are terrible overpays, we signed a legit player for only 3 years at just over $20M and Taj was added for $10M for 2 years. While Randle has upside (he has improved every year basically) and Taj is obviously meant to provide the vet presence (which indicates to me not a lack of ideas, but a clear commitment to supporting the youth), these contracts and their length in this day and age keeps the team from getting boxed in on bad deals.

The real narrative is they are sticking to their guns and maintaining cap flexibility and not panicking by overpaying players to appease impatient fans. You should be applauding that whether Randle or Gibson themselves stir your loins or not. The overall narrative shows Perry is keeping a level head and not being a sucker. That's huge for the Knicks and I'm sure this board will misinterpret everything about it and this will be a cesspool for the next month.

I see what you are saying. And I hate to be that guy, but I'm still sure the FO wanted KD after the injury. This stuff we are hearing about not wanting to give him the max was just damage control. It was clear the Knicks' plan failed when KI went to the Nets. I'm not saying this can't work out for the Knicks. But their plan A failed.

Anyways, I'm still iffy on these moves. Sticking to their guns would mean continuing the rebuild like using your capspace to get more picks. It sounds like they are trying to sneak into the 8th seed.

You're just spitballing.

There is NO WAY the Knicks drop the leak BEFORE FREE AGENCY that Dolan wants complete medical due diligence on KD if they wanted him at max dollars. There is only one reason they'd seed that which is to back away from KD, because you don't do that if you want to sign him grasshopper

This isn't a rebuild, in a rebuild you collect assets, not sign awful contracts.

if does if they keep paying meh role players who will just take time away from our young developing players...like if reggie bullock takes minutes from dotson/frank/rj/knox or the combo of that I will not be pleased.

We did need big forwards, that's the only part I agree with them on. I would have ran Knox at the four though, just to keep his minutes up. Now you basically stuck your own draft pick on the bench. Utter silliness.

Knox will be a bust if you make him a 3 and we just spent 30 million on 2 4’s. Y’all don’t realize how clueless this FO is.

Honestly, I have no issue with Taj and his deal, he's a good vet to have around. Good signing to help the young guys, primarily Mitch. Cant field just 20 year olds.

But why Randle? Makes no sense. I know Fiz can so much to say about him, but damn. Might as well trade Knox then. he's buried now.

Also more defensible than signing Gibson

More defensible yes, but signing a guy that isn’t a good shooter or defender in a league that prioritizes it in a dying position is kinda dumb.

I think the Met fans are way more positive and they haven't won anything. And Wilpon is pretty darn bad too.

Probably.

Only reason I've backed up Perry and Fiz for this long, because the whole idea was that they have good relations with the players; which was supposed to help us in free agency.

Not like it turned out.

2 years $20 million for Gibson is a bit nuts though.

i would have tanked again but if you want to try to get the 8th spot and maintain cap flexibility in the future, these are the kind of moves you make. you're all way too angry at this. you weren't getting any unprotected lottery picks for bad contracts anyway.

It has nothing to do with KD, or even DLo. It’s the point of failing to understand that the smart move would be to acquire picks by trading for liability contracts. These moves have no upside.

The upside is nurturing our youth, and having some vets to show them the ropes and to hold them accountable when they mess up.

Randle is going to take every last shot. We could’ve gotten vets like Carter, Dudley, Amir Johnson and Jamal Crawford. Didn’t have to spend 20 million.

Randle can take as many shots as he wants with a .600 TS%. He's immediately our most efficient scorer besides Mitch, who's all finishes at the rim. The real problem is his defense. He's only 24 so he still has upside. He's an investment. I'm no fan of Randle, as you well know, but I will reserve judgement.

Crawford is awful, Amir can't play anymore... but I wouldn't mind Carter or Dudley either.
