Just realized that so far, it shakes out as:

Outgoing
Kemba
Lamb
Kaminsky
$22 million in cap space

Incoming
Rozier
$19 million in cap space

Yikes.....

That actually makes me feel better, the team will undoubtedly pick in the top half of the lottery next year.

But now we have $19m committed to Rozier and this team is stupid enough to pass on a top PG prospect in the draft because of it.

Good news is this draft also has some good shooting guards with height and Wiseman at C.
Say we got Edwards, even RJ or Wiseman , either fits right into our line up nicely.

Just not buying this at all. Unless Rozier performs at an all star level next year there's no way we pass on a PG if he's the best player there. Same goes for any position. With where we are as a team, come next draft you take whoever you think is the best player available. Position does not matter

With the overall lack of talent on this team it should be BPA every year for the next five years.

The team as of now.

Rozier-Graham
Monk-Bacon-Martin
Miles-Nic
PJ-Marv-MKG-McDaniels
Cody-Willy-Biz

That is quite bad. Should play uptempo and athletic though.

This is a great ranking team, we don’t have to lose on purpose. Just play the young guys and see who is worth keeping around. Hopefully we land a top 3 pick and re-evaluate.

We should be able to trade some expirings for worse deals and picks.

I am just shaking my head in disbelief. There must be more to this story than we have seen so far.

Everybody saying we need to blow it up and get a top 5 pick. That’s what we are doing and now you are upset.

Rozier isn’t changing much there other than adding another young guy with upside. I’m really not sure Graham is an NBA player right now, he was pretty bad at everything last year. Rolling with him at Pg could of stunted the growth of the entire team.

Now if Graham is ready he can still earn the starting spot instead of it being gifted to him.

That has got to be the worst team in the NBA from an entire roster standpoint. Good lord that is atrocious. I would not start Rozier and Monk together though it’s too much of a Smurf backcourt. I would start Bacon at shooting guard.

Yikes that shooting guard depth chart.

To give you guys an idea of how crazy the contracts in the NBA are getting - Lillard got an extension and will be making $50 million in the last TWO years of his contract. Yes, you read that correctly -$50 MILLION!

I see on the wiretap that GSW will be looking to trade Russell after they sign-and-trade for him -- anything we could offer that they might want?

They need wing help, I'd offer them MKG and Marvin, but that won't get it done. We're not in a position to trade for premium talent right now.

I'm out

Post#299 » by powerforward » Mon Jul 1, 2019 4:52 pm

This is me venting....
I have been Hornets fan since day one in 88, went thru the excitement watching the building of a team, getting LJ and then Zo- beating the celts in playoffs of buzzer beater. The low of trading Zo then LJ- then rice- then Eddie- then the worst we lost the team.
This nearly killed my life long love of the NBA.

Then the news that we were getting a team back- the hope-(didn't care the team name was dumb) Some early moves to move up to Get Emeka. Got Wallace. Bad drafts then began, but we managed to put together a decent team- Jordan buys team- more exactment. More bad drafts- but continually I defended the team. Tanked and wound up with MKG instead of AD- but I was a MKG guy- he started great then got hurt against NO and it seems it has went downhill since.

We have missed on every draft pick except one- and we just let him go. We overpay marginal guys- none of whom are top 3- 4 guys on championship contenders. We just want to make playoffs and yet can't even do that.

Every move seemed shortsighted but I held out hope they knew more than I did- that there was a plan- But no, turned down multiple picks so we can draft Frank ( I know it wasn't the 4 1sts that were reported but pretty sure one of those picks was used on Terry Rozier so there you go) I disagreed when people ranked us as team with worst future outlook- and that was with Kemba- now I agree and don't know how anyone could think that we have anything than a bleak future.

New management- new hope. Then this. We could have traded Kemba but held on to him in my opinion because of the Allstar game. But we let him walk instead of give him less than the max- and compounded it by signing a backup quality guy to 20 mill year. We are a laughingstock, and we have no talent to build around (Miles, Monk, PJ, Bacon these guys at best project to high end role players)

Maybe we get high pick- but we will not be relevant for a decade. Look at suns, kings, wolves, cavs (before LeBron) this is our future and worst yet we have no plan in place, I see no indication of what direction we are going.

I think I am checking out - I will check on high lights every once in awhile, but I don' t think I can follow the hornets or the NBA for awhile, too disappointing for something that should be a fun distraction.

I'd argue we actually have a direction without Kemba as opposed to with him. Treadmilling with Kemba while paying him max money just wouldn't have been good for us.
