Should be a decent amount still, depending on how the contracts are structured. This is my best guess:
$40m ongoing contracts
$22m Harris cap hold
$20m Horford (assuming the contracts escalates some)
$10m Richardson
$5m scott

That's $97-99m, leaving about $10m in space plus the MLE ($9m-ish). Still got some moves to make!

Hell yeah, that's enough to make things interesting

Look at the team he took to the conference finals last season - him and 3 starters 23 and under

There's no doubt he's a great player. One of the most underappreciated in his era because his impact goes far beyond counting stats.

We should be better next year. It's a few years down the road I'm more worried about.

3rd year is my biggest concern. First two years should be fine. 4th he's expiring,

That is not correct. We have just under $8M in open cap left. We gave our Room Exception to Mike Scott, so we have no exceptions left. After using the cap we can only sign vet mins.

We can also sign rookie mins. You know... those 5 second round picks that we will have in camp. The one or two that do the best can earn a roster spot.

How does this work towards the cap? Just woke up and saw everything, is it 97M towards the cap until we win a championship? Or does it count as 109M right away

I read that 4th year could be partially guaranteed: is this true?

Hes a much better leader tha ln Butler. Butler is a turd who has a hard time getting along with anybody it seems.

Anyhow, youll love Al. According to advanced stats hes one of thr better bigs in the game, does things that affect winning in different ways than just scoring. Hes one of the better defenders in the league. You might be a bit underwhelmed by his stats in the regular season, but in the playoffs hes game and clutch.
Good assessment:

Well you guys added size but also 33yrs old player next play off and committed to Harris, got Richardson. Definetely better defensive team, but less scoring and spacing..and also Butler was closer for you guys, he would make the last shot. I dont see Harris can do it.
So sure on paper you might look stronger but in 7games series with the same opponent...that fast scoring by JJ and Butler hitting shots in the last 2minutes will be missed and might cost you dearly.
Not sure its enough for the Bucks, Raptors (Kawhi), even Celtics...they might be functioning better with Kemba.
East is as wide open as it was last year, ńobody got significantly better.
Even Pacers lost Young Joseph Bogdanovic and Collison (retired) thats 4of9guys..chemistry disrupted.Dipo out till Xmas..

Now with Butler instead of Harris and adding Horford and Richardson..now you are talking..clearly east favourite even with kawhi back to TOronto. Have no idea why you guys didnt do that ?

So here's why.

1. We traded Richardson in a S&T (if Heat finds a new trading partner). Which means that the other team wanted our FA, Heat wanted Butler not Harris.
2. Tobias Harris had a relatively small cap hold, which made the signing of Al Horford possible. With Butler's cap hold this wouldn't be possible.

I think for now it’s deemed an “unlikely” incentive and doesn’t count against the cap, and only counts against the tax if it hits. I could be wrong though.

That's my assumption too. It only makes sense as a 3 million unlikely (until it is) incentive each year. But Bodner had tweeted that he thought it was just a non-guarantee on the 4th year and so he thought we were out of space (presumably except for the Room Exception). But I just went to look for it and it appears he deleted it so maybe there is consensus that we've got 7.7 left to spend.

Congrats to you guys. I think even with Kawhi you guys might be the favorites in the East.

I am curious what Philly fans think of the spacing and transition defense now though. That seems like the main areas of concern if I was a Philly fan. Maybe some permitted defense issues.

But your guys interior defense is going to be absurd with Embiid and Horford. And your spacing on offense is also going to be amazing with both Embiid and Horford as outside threats. I can see some weird scenarios where Simmons actually plays a quasi C on offense to mitigate his shooting. Seems like you could run a couple picks to get a mismatch and put Simmons on a smaller guy in the post and he would be wrecked by Ben.

Transition defense? We replaced Dario Saric and JJ Redick with Al Horford and Josh Richardson.

Forgot about Richardson. That helps.

I guess I just figured opposing teams might try to outrun you guys. Embiid and Horford are elite at some things. But Horford is a little older and maybe I’m mistaken on Embiid but I don’t think he is great on transition defense but elite at half court. I could be wrong. It’s why I’m asking.

I think most people are focusing too much on Al Horford and the loss of Jimmy, and totally underestimating the Josh Richardson acquisition. His acquisition is what makes the other moves make sense

Embiid is elite at defense, period. In transition he has surprising burst for a man of his size and his timing and footwork is outstanding as always.

I still dont see the fit between Embiid, Simmons and Horford. I get that in regular season Embiid and Horford will not play that much together but in the playoffs they will have to and i dont see these 3 fit together offensively.
