Beverly is back. 3 year $40m. I think that is well deserved. I am happy to see him back.

Little pricey, so I'll be interested to see the particulars on year three.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Re: 2019 & 2020 Free-Agents
PAT BEV 3 yrs/$40M
our hand was forced
a very slight overpay of $2-3M/yr in this funny money feeding frenzy
Pat, LouWill, Trezz and Gallo is all we have to show Kawhi
maybe a Marcus Morris...?
Kawhi is no frontrunner
he could still say yes
blue collar team
Plus I love Pat Bev!!
Mr 94 Feet
[slightly] overpaying for a guy I love is no overpay really...
Clips still the Clips

Compared to what some of these FAs have been getting tonight, this is a great deal that keeps our identity! Love the signing!
Now lets go get Kawhi! Dunno why he would sign w/ the Lakers when all this depth is off the board now.
Cmon Kawhi! Hope this is your master plan all along. Delay your decision and sign with the Clippers so the Lakers have little options to build around AD and Lebron!

I'll be surprised if there's any squirreling on year 3, Jeff. The market spoke. And Pat's more valuable to us than to any other org, worth a premium, a slight overpay.
Because now that there are no Jimmy Butlers out there, Lou Will and Clipper Pat are all we've got to show Kawhi.
Pay the man. With a smile. Pat Bev is as much Mr. Clipper as anyone who's ever walked through our door.
Welcome back and welcome home, Pat!!

Clippers Re-Sign Patrick Beverley for 3 Years, $40 Million
The Patrick Beverley three-year $40M contract still has the Clippers positioned to have a max salary. Los Angeles now has $41M in room, including the free agent holds of Rodney McGruder and Ivica Zubac.

That's a lot of money, but I'm glad I get to keep rooting for him.
Since we're gonna use capspace by doing this deal last, and keeping his cap hold ($9.5M) while we do other deals before re-signing him, I hope they did a $14.5M - $13.3M - $12.1M frontloaded deal. Ideally with a partial guarantee on year 3.
But the way the market is going crazy, I'm ok either way.

We’re overpaying Bev … but it also means we’re paying for his intangibles. I’m not happy about the extra $2 million or so a year compared to what he’s worth, but I’m very happy about the message it gives about our front office and type of team we’re committed to. He’s the type of guy you pull for as a fan—and want to play with as a potential FA.

Meh.
Bring me Kawhi.
Playing the Culture Olympics is cool but after a while, it's just stalling because you can't find a star.
Happy he's back but meh.

Culture Might Be Their Only Resolve
You have to remember that the Clippers now have a reputation for trading stars away. Chris Paul wanted out. Blake Griffin was a heartbreaking trade at the request of Jerry West. DeAndre Jordan left on his own. Tobias Harris was exchanged for the future. This was even done during the Sterling era, but when they had no idea their guys had hidden star potential. A lot of free agents fear being traded as assets more than beings, hence the Clippers are being avoided. That's why I find it very strange that Kawhi Leonard might be different to them: playing for second-fiddle cities to L.A. like Riverside and San Diego, playing for the Good Samaritan Spurs, then influencing his distraction-free personality into the Raptors that got them their first championship.
When the Raptors brought in Leonard, they did so with the championship in mind. The Clippers want Leonard so he can teach them how to overcome pessimism and the biased press. Completely different priorities.
Personally, I would have been okay with the Clippers being starless again and winning with role players. Everybody outside of the Clipper fandom still sees the Clippers as losers, and until they prove them wrong it's gonna stay that way. If every player with an All-Star has no interest in Clippers because the losing history is too well trodden, then forget the All-Stars. Sign the role players, improve your depth, strength in numbers. Winning without an All-Star current or previous has never been done in NBA history - the four teams with just role players were all 1st round exits, the Nuggets being the closest with 7-game series. If Clippers can pull off the ultimate upset - a lower seed eliminating a top seed without All-Stars, maybe even a 3-0 comeback if applicable - maybe that will be what finally gets the attention of the All-Stars.
This is all I'm saying: if playoff failures with superstars was the reason their superstars were taken away from them, then playoff success without superstars may be the solution to getting the right to sign an All-Star again.
