The trade has fallen apart. Horford May still end up in Boston from my understanding and Butler in Philly

Pretty sure Horford was signed into cap space, the Butler trade is irrelevant to that other than the fact that if the trade falls through they could lose Butler for nothing.

Pretty rough day for Celtics fans. Nets create a super team and sixers get al horford . I’m sure Kemba is a great guy and will help but we’ve lost a lot more than we’ve gotten back . This has been a disaster of an off-season

Philly signing Horford is a stake to the Vampire's heart. 76s kill shot of Boston par excellence. It's not good. It takes a lot away from the signing of Walker. Talk about a momentum changer...

One can only hope with the exorcising of the Great Evil that Ainge and Wyc will get off to a fresh start and things will be less rocky...

Philly needs to have Butlers cap hit lowered to Richardson’s in order to have enough cap room to sign Al. So this does effect things. Though I am sure they can work something out.

I think Al went from being underrated to overrated here recently. He disappeared for most of the regular season and that’s been more the case this season than last and should only get worse. For all the talk about him as a good locker room guy, what was he doing when everything went down this season? I believe Philly will regret that contract.

Al declined appreciably last year but it wasn’t apparent until playoffs. He still could play at a high level but the consistently just wasn’t there. Philly is perfect for him as Embiid and Simmons will pick him up unlike Boston where he shouldered most of the burden in the paint alone. That said, I am not sure what he brings to that team. Simmons and Embiid pretty much do everything he does already and he is not a good enough shooter next to Embiid to help him. As a 5 being defended by 5s, his slow deliberate wide open 3s were great for us. Not sure he’ll have space as a 4.

I hate losing Al for nothing but to be a true contender, we need to move on.....but there may be nobody to move onto for a long time. Realistically if Irving committed and AD trade went down....this was going to happen anyway.

in terms of initiating offense, passing, and shooting, i think hayward could easily fill horford's role. he's perfect for it, actually, because he's more of an offensive threat to drive than horford.

where we lose is big man D. that's the main issue. not even that much in reboudning since al wasn't that great a rebounder.

Celts managed Al’s workload and gave him
Lots of days off. Too bad another team will now get the benefit of that.

which brings up another point. with embiid managed, and if they manage horford like we did, then these guys are going to play significantly less minutes than normal. they can ramp it up in the playoffs but then horford will start to burn out, like he did last year. the playoffs are a long grind.

i would have loved to keep al, but at that price i'm glad we're not the ones having to worry about these issues for the next 4 years.

RW has the talent to replace some of that D but does he have the brains yet? Kemba loves PnR so RWs lack of spacing might not be an issue if Kemba and Hayward can use him like Harden and Capella.

If the deal has hit a snag, then let's get in on this. Any chance we can do a 3-way and grab Hassan Whiteside's expiring from the Heat? Or **** it - let's grab Olynyk back.

Their is a theory that has been around Atlanta for years, that if Al is moved to PF he will get exposed.

It will be interesting to see what Al can really do now that he is playing along side a Center, and if he can guard a guy like Blake Griffin.

Damn, you can tell when people are being full of **** about leaving a team/city. That is so far from the case here, they genuinely loved Boston.

This absolutely sucks. Its a gut punch to this team contending anytime soon.

This one hurts. I absolutely would've expected them to try to keep Butler over signing Horford but I think Horford is actually the more savvy (if risky) move. They're overpaying him to really push to win now, and I have to respect that even if I can't stand Philly or their fans.

Horford is a 4, especially at this late stage of his career. He's been a good sport (because of course he has, he's a great guy) but I totally understand from his perspective wanting to go to a team which will not only contend, but where he's unquestionably the 4.

Oooh. I'd be in on Olynyk for sure.
