Doesn’t this really highlight how bad the draft was? Ainge has multiple opportunities to take bigs and passed. Serous would look pretty good on this roster right about now.

Not really. How many centers drafted are generally ready to help a playoff team day one? Especially when picked outside of the lottery.

LOL Hornets fans confused/pissed that they potentially need to compensate the Celtics for not only losing their all-star point guard but also for overpaying a point guard who hasn't shot 40% in any season of his career.
We won't likely get much though if this S&T scenario doesn't turn into a three-teamer.

Agreed. This entire offseason so far has pretty much been the FO betting on Brown & Tatum becoming stars. Tatum will get the max for sure either next year or the year after, and they need to get and extension done with Brown now so there’s as few distractions as possible this season. Just get these kids paid & hope they want to be great.

Agreed. For once I'm hoping our FO extends and takes a leap of faith that brown will turn into a max player that's worth his salary.

We are going to ask a lot of Robert Williams and Daniel Theis this year. I know we don’t want Kanter, but at least he can rebound.

5/170 is a ton of money for Jaylen Brown.
I guess my point is more so that its time for Ainge to either **** or get off the pot. Give him his max extension now or trade him— do not let him go into the season with no deal so he’ll be forced to play for stats over wins.

I'm still on the Marcus Morris train at this point. He certainly doesn't fill a void at center, but he can score in this system and knows it.
I would even grab the Morris brothers at this point.
Kemba
Smart
Hayward
Tatum
Morris #1
Brown
Morris #2
Theis
Timelord
Langofrd
Williams
Edwards
Ojeleye

You do realize we signed Kemba Walker no?
Attempted a shrewd S and T to get room for Horford or a Mid-Level.
We did get Kemba but couldn't build that momentum into resigning Horford and likely not Morris now. We have 2 bigs with little exp
Yeah it would have been great to somehow keep Horford and add Kemba but it’s near impossible.
No thanks to Morris. I am done with that dude.

I think yes, but mine is currently the minority view.
The Phoenix part is easy; tougher is that we'd need help from a further team.

100% we put a lot of bets on these two, I’d like to see it through on extensions. Hopefully they do the right thing on the 6th.
156-1 Celtics are frauds when pressure is put on them. They would have been toast if Luka was not stupid enough to foul himself out. Enjoy this ONE finals win. There will never be another with the Js and the Celtics cant afford stacked team.
I don’t think you max JB at this point. Offer him a nice extension around 4/80..first year salary at 18 million or so. If he doesn’t want to sign then play out the season and let the market dictate If he shows the expected improvement then no problem paying him what he is worth...maybe a max deall

AFAIK, he will technically be traded on July 6th, so he will not be allowed to play for the Celtics in the 19-20 season.
We can in one particular case I described above. See last (bolded) sentence.A team cannot reacquire a player it traded away during the same season (a season for this purpose being defined as starting on the first day of the regular season and ending on the last day of the Finals). If the player was traded between seasons (i.e., from the first day after the Finals to the last day prior to the start of the next regular season), it cannot reacquire the player prior to the end of the next season. If he is waived by his new team, then he cannot re-sign with his original team until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract, whichever comes first6. However, if a team trades a player's draft rights, it can reacquire the player during the same season.

I think "draft rights" means what it appears to mean, and hence doesn't apply to Baynes.

We need that cap space to sign Kemba though right? Unless a 3 way s and t materializes?

Player movement in the NBA is now wild. Wasn't this absurd when I was growing up. Larry was a Celtic forever. Magic was a Laker. Stockton and Malone IS Utah. Reggie was a Pacer for life, etc.
That's as crazy as that period in the mid 1990s where a ton of top picks were traded before their rookie contracts ran out.

Offering him 4/80 would insult him after Murray got 5/170. Itd be like what the Red Sox did to Lester.
If youre not prepared to max him, trade him— there are no good FAs next summer and someone will give him a max [see: Otto Porter].

Didn't Toronto trade VanVleet and then re-acquire him right away?

I'm sure it applies to any type of player.
