But he's a pretty bad fit for our current roster. We've recreated the problems we had last year with too many hungry mouths to feed.

Kanter needs, needs, needs shots to be useful. He can create some through his work on the offensive boards, but he gets the rest through rolls and post-ups.

Kemba, Jaylen, Tatum, Hayward, Kanter - that is too many scoring oriented guys and too little D. Someone is gonna have to go the bench to make room for Smart.

What? What's the difference between that and Horford? Again, Horford had 3-point range but to a degree he needed the ball in his hands too.

Shots. Al was low-volume shooter and high-volume facilitator. A strong passer and ball-mover who also spaced the floor for others.

Kanter does not space the floor for others and he's not a great passer. He's a scorer. He plays well off of ball-dominant guards because he's a good roll man and offensive rebounder, but he also needs post touches to put up his points.

Kemba and Kanter in particular need to shoot the ball a lot to maintain their value. Both are terrible defenders who will be attacked repeatedly. They stay positive (or neutral in Kanter's case) primarily by scoring in impressive volume at impressive efficiency.

This type of set-up works best when the other guys on the floor are 3/D. Portland had Harkless and Aminu, two sub 14% usage guys, to work around Dame (29% usage) CJ (26%) and Nurkic/Kanter (25/23).

Asking 2 of Hayward/Tatum/Jaylen to be shooter spectators is not going to go over well.

I notice you didn't say anything on Kemba. Even in his interview with SVP on Sportscenter, he admitted without explicitly saying it that he could compete in Boston, cause reality is no one was really around him in Charlotte thus he took more shots. I wanna see how he plays now that he actually has players like Hayward/Tatum/Brown. Not saying he won't put up shots, but I don't think you're giving enough credit to what Kemba's joining in Boston vs what he's leaving.

You have a point on Horford being a better passer, but apart from that, he has similar FGA to Kanter. The only thing even there as I mentioned is that Horford can shoot 3's, but it's not like he put up less actual shots than Kanter. One other thing I notice is that Kanter's a bit of a better rebounder, so it works that he plays closer to the basket. Look, Horford's better by a mile I'm not disputing that, but I don't buy that suddenly we'll have a "only one ball on the court" problem that we didn't supposedly have last season.

You want to make a lottery draft decision based on the free agents that will be available that coming year?

I wish to bestow the following GIF to the Celtics' forum Moderators to decide who should have the honor of using it for her/his avatar this coming season. (This one, coincidentally, changes to a green hue.) I alone used it for 2 years on the Knicks' forum and it is of great personal meaning to me.

Good luck and God speed!

Kemba/Jaylen/Hayward/Tatum/Kanter is a hell of a starting 5. This offseason has been an A+ so far, especially from the tail spin we first appeared to be in.

Not picking on CG but it seems like the usual suspects are always critical of every move.

So I'm a usual suspect from every move huh, if that were so I suppose I should be on the fire danny, not like the 1st round picks and down on kemba. Well I like those things I hate what I hate bub and I hate signing kanter and drafting 2 pg in 2nd round and I hate signing 7 guards to duel it out in summer league and I hate not addressing the size issues we are small and slow.
Kanter is like the worst center to put with this group. It sucks but lumping me in with always negative is false.

I think you're way too grumpy

Who cares about summer league. 2nd round picks really? That's the issue? Players that statistically have a 5% probability to make it in the league as bench warmers and you have an issue with that?

I think the draft was good. Theres probably a plan romeo is a contingency plan for brown. We got a pf who can potentially play soon. Were you on the bol bol train? Remember how everyone passed on him?

That's a manufactured hairline. He's actually completely covered with that hair on his head. That's just where he chose to make it.

It's not the 2nd round in general I'm just upset that no moves seemed coordinated. And even knowing we are getting walker ok cool then we wasted the chance to get bigger and so be it 5% chance to make it why not go with your weakness.
But most importantly to me we needed a big that gave us great d. What do we do get one that can't pass, shoot the 3 can't block or steal or play d.
I'm upset true because I see the writing on the wall. Pacers,bucks,nets,magic,76ers, even knicks with money chose bigs which is smart. Wizards a dysfunctional team got Tomas byrant.
I think we have a super weak short team I can't believe I'm the only one pissed here. For the record I love the 1st round this year, love we kept brown tatum and I even like walker. But my god address the need especially when I see other teams just gobble up bigs on great contracts. 2 years from now nobody is going to miss kanter.
We have 3 center on the summer league timelord, fall (novilty perhaps) and Chiesa okaye (spelling).
Again 5% chance but looking at roster one would think let's work on our weaknesses even taking a 5% chance. .

I am pissed as well, but I'm holding in my horror at this defensive sieve of a frontcourt, for a while in hopes that this cannot possibly be a front court that Brad and Ainge are AOK with.

IOW: IT+Zeller is not too too far off from Walker+Kanter defensively

There are some high expectations on what 5 million will get you in the NBA at the Center position...

I can’t wait to watch him killing Joel. We have the MLE remaining right? We can also can eventually sign and trade Morris? I think we have other moves in mind.

Not normally the debbie downer type but we're still 4th in the East. We're significantly worse unless the J's make a quantum leap.

Don't understand the direction.

Nobody we can pick up at C will push into true contender status. The path to that is our young guys blossoming into stars themselves, and then either building around them or flipping them for a true alpha superstar.

Yup. I watched some of the Portland games living in the west coast and having NBA league pass. Kantar was great for you guys, both off the bench and as a starter during the playoffs.

Looks like Holmes got the exact same deal from the Kings. Kanter is more proven and experienced, though.

They probably rank somewhere towards the bottom defensively. Tatum is an okay defender and Jaylen is an above average defender but everyone else sucks big time defensively.
