I’m cool with the contract but I do find it interesting that despite impressive improving numbers for several years now he hasn’t stuck with a team. The skeptic in me can’t help but think there is something teams don’t like.

To me it looks like LA didn’t bring him back because they brought in new management that wanted to make their own mark on the franchise (kind of like we did after Phil got fired) so they let him leave in free agency. The pelicans only signed him to a 1 year deal with a player option, and it just happens they drafted Zion who plays his same position so they didn’t want to spend the kind of money it would take to bring him back when they just drafted Zion because it wouldn’t be a good fit.

It's his defense, or lack thereof.
A bullyball player that sucks on defense just isn't too valuable in the modern NBA.

So it's clear he's terrible but quite possibly be making 100 million over the next few...but I guess that's the nba for you.

Let's playin for 9th!

I kinda remember him being liked in LA for his defense. Idk what the advanced stats show. Low risk move with only 2 years guaranteed. This probably shows we arnt getting any big names and we are going to try and build within.
He’ll definitely push the young guys to compete. He plays super hard. So did kanter though lol.
advanced stats show that he sucks.
Karl Anthony Towns had the worst defensive RPM for centers 3 years ago and has been in the bottom echelon these last 2 years. Does that mean he sucks or did he play on a **** team?
"Advanced Stats" provide numbers not analysis...
I'm pretty sure it's near universal that Towns was a bad defender over those years, particularly three years ago. Though people's opinions are obviously shaded by the advanced stats he does poorly in.

I don’t wanna make it sound like excuses but he does have good reasons for not sticking with a team
1) the lakers traded like everyone to get lebron and AD
2) the pelicans just drafted a big time prospect who plays his position

It will be interesting to see who Fiz starts I think he will bring Mitch off the bench to make him see the importance of bigman shooting 3s in today's game.

Yeah...I get the feeling that Randle is an underrated move...hopefully in future context he will become a steal...

I would think you’d want Portis coming off the bench. He has that annoying wear you out style. Plus knicks absolutely need Mitch for defense.

Absolutely, he was a victim of circumstance. The Pelicans may have resigned him but he may have wanted to leave on his own this time around. Either way, he was a good pick up.

Randle reminds me so much the Charlotte Larry Johnson before the back injuries.

I see him as a more athletic Zach Randolph. And that’s a monster.

I think spacing is more important then individual defense plus if Mitch starts taking 3pt shooting seriously he will be a all-star in this league.MaseInYourFace wrote:Jimmit79 wrote:It will be interesting to see who Fiz starts I think he will bring Mitch off the bench to make him see the importance of bigman shooting 3s in today's game.

With the Lakers it was cap. There's a clip somewhere from ESPN where they discuss how he was unexpectedly coming into his own but the Lakers had sold there fans a max and couldn't turn back now. Pelicans IDK, Okafor and Zion and didn't want the extra salary? Maybe they don't like him at center.

Re: WOJ: Julius Randle 3/63M (Team Option)
I’m no optimist, but I see a very logical case for Randle being an All Star and RJ being ROY.
I also see this board splitting down the middle on whether Randle is good or just stat padding fool’s gold.
