We could avoid that by signing Coby before doing the deal. If we do that, then Dunn plus Blakeney for Olynyk works (I think).
Hmmm, we just signed Archi....I wonder if that will make it work?
I'd take either player for Dunn and Blakney....
If the Bulls are over the cap (which they will be once Young, Sato, Arci and Coby formally sign), then under the CBA, if they send out more than $6.33M and less than $19M, they can take back in $5 M more than they send out (assuming no roster charges get implicated).
Dunn is $5.3 M and Blakeney is $1.6 M, so that adds up to $6.9 M. Add $5 M to that, and the Bulls can take back up to $11.9 M. Olynyk is at $11.7 M, so it ought to work if no roster charges are involved.
Bulls are currently at 13 players counting Young, Sato, Arci and Coby and the other guaranteed contracts. So if they trade 2 for 1, they will only have 12 players, which will trigger another roster charge. So I think they need to sign Gafford before doing the Olynyk deal (or sign someone using the RMLE). If they do that, then after the Olynyk trade, they will still have at least 13 players on the roster, and thus no roster charge would be added, and the deal would go through.
