Re: Kawhi Leonard?
Bill Simmons and Ryan Rusillo said the Lakers are probably telling Kawhi we got Lebron and AD. What do the Clippers have?
They suggest the best way to counter this argument would have been to sign a big name early, rather than wait to see if Kawhi is coming.
Now it's too late and they can't get a big name any more.

Lakers have ZERO depth though. If anything, what happened to Golden State this past playoffs should've been a tale of caution when you front load a roster with no depth.

Make no mistake, this team only needs Kawhi to truly contend. This roster is perfectly suited to Kawhi's strengths and style and is a playoff team without him. We overachieved with respect to expectations last year, but that's because defensive acumen has become severely undervalued in the player market. The Clippers have nearly completed a rebuild under everyone's eyes for this same reason: the defensive and gritty sides to players often go overlooked. This is why we will make the playoffs next year even without Kawhi, and will contend for a title with him.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
Yeah that's kind of the argument, if they tell you that, you counter it with lol look at those dudes that think getting the most big names is the way to win a championship.
Don't think the Clippers are gonna try to go for any angle that acknowledges the Lakers or the Raptors tbh, they'll talk about what they offer and Kawhi and his people are smart enough to compare and decide the way forward. They're not casual fans that are gonna be swayed by hot takes or star allure. He knows what it takes to win championships already, and you could argue neither of his championship teams were top heavy like that, they were actually the opposite, hard nosed deep teams that took out those types of superteams.

Not surprising they ignored the actual counter point the Clippers can argue... The fact we have loads of assets to improve a roster around him that already won 48 games.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
The more and more I think about this. I think this will be a sign and trade deal.
What do you think the Clippers would have to give the Raptors to make it worth their while?
Kawhi and DG
For Gallianari, Jerome Robinson, Kabengele and 2 1st.
That way he doesn't leave Toronto in the dust with nothing.

There is absolutely no reason to do this deal.

If Kawhi says if I don't get the extra money I'm going to the Lakers. Than there is every reason to do this deal.

Kawhi cant get any more money via sign and trade. The contract is the exact same if he signed with the Clippers as a free agent.

I thought Toronto could sign him to a Supermax, which I thought tacked on another year and was more per.

They can offer a 5 year max at 8% raises to STAY. They can't trade him until January 15. If they want to sign and trade him, the contract is limited to 4 years and 5% raises. That's the exact same contract he can sign in free agency with any team that has cap space and not named Toronto.

We did everything "right" and he's making us wait like this...
Worst part is, I think the Clippers actually like Kawhi, the person and the player (so do the Raptors). In an upcoming offseason where Durant was available, we made our intentions pretty clear that we are interested in Kawhi.
A team like the Lakers doesn't GAF. They just want to add any superstar to their roster.
But here they are....with a chance.

I really do not get why he is acting this way. He had most the year to think about it plus the last couple of weeks. Its a big decision. I get that but its not like its out of the blue and he had 10 minutes to make a decision. Hope the Clippers have a plan B and C just in case.

Re: Kawhi Leonard?
At this point, either Kawhi is genuinely still undecided, or he's known all along and loves the attention from making the NBA world wait. The latter doesn't sound like him, but who knows.

Kawhi is not eligible to receive a supermax.
the first qualification rule to get a supermax is that you have to be playing to the team that drafted you OR the team that traded for your rookie contract. Kawhi lost his eligibility when he got traded by Spurs in the midst of his rookie extension (2nd contract).
if you add the other requirementslike the MVP, DPOY or making All-NBA team and that you can only get it after 8 years of service time, or after your 7th year as an extension, only few players qualify for it.
Curry, Harden, Westbrook and Wall got them. Lillard just signed for it. AD could have gotten it if not for the trade. Kemba was not offered by Hornets.
It seems Giannis will be the next one to get it in the next two years, but no one else.

While not a Supermax I think he can do a 5/190 with Toronto or a 4/140 with another team

correct, but like TucsonClip mentioned, if he were to sign that contract he cannot be traded until mid-season. (like we did with Blake)
