Guy is pretty bold out there. Frankie should be nervous.

Re: California classic
James again played good perimeter defense.
I find it odd both Gabriel and Herro sat tonight.

Why though? The potential extra year of team control? Yogi is better than Frank in almost every facet other than athleticism and physique (Frank is yoked).

1. Swanigan is Fat Albert lite. No way he can run and gun with us, if he didn't have a guaranteed contract doubt he'd be around.
2. Gabriel is rough around the edges, but everywhere doing everything. Worthy of his two way.
3. Guy chaotic runs & guns. Real 3 point potential, has seen the floor well despite turnovers.
4. James barely noticeable on the stat box, looks like he can play some defense. They hardly pass the ball to him. Missed some shots by a mile.

I think the team culture aspect of it favors Mason over Yogi. I remember watching an interview with Harry and Kayte Christensen and he was talking about how Frank is the guy that gives them all the lingo in the locker room. He started the whole litty committee thing on the bench too, seems like a pretty big part of the locker room.

I think James will be fine. Went back and watched some of his college ball last night and you can see he's yet to get comfortable. The athleticism is there. The defensive potential is there. Kings have a project on their hands (what 2nd round pick isn't a project?) and I feel good about where things can go.

Re: California classic
The only thing working against James if he's seen as a project is that he's a full 4 year college player. That can really limit that upside because he's been working at those aspects of the game for a while already. Worst case he does look like a OK defensive end of the bench player.

Keep digging away with those 2nd round picks and hopefully you strike gold.

Re: California classic
For side show fellas.
Thompson looks like he can play but he's been around the NBA for a bit.
Mika looks like a fun project, has some work to do sure, but some of his instincts/movement/vision seem ok.
Brown pesty on ball defender.

Re: California classic
Outside of Gabriel I see a team full of G League players.
I would like to see James and Guy stuck around though.

James looking like a bust? Gabriel looking good? At least 1 for 2

I think that 1 for 3 or 1 for 4 in the second round is really good... no?

You can't be labeled a bust if you're drafted in the 2nd round, can you?BoogieTime wrote:James looking like a bust? Gabriel looking good? At least 1 for 2

It’s absolutely silly to label a 2nd round pick a bust, especially one who only ran 3 summer league games. Absolutely ridiculous.

Any time you don’t amount to anything you can, in the way I use the term. Disappointed in James, at least Guy is out there showing positive pull towards perhaps making it at some point

The general definition of a bust
A draft bust occurs when a highly touted or highly selected draftee does not meet expectations. ... A player is also regarded as a larger bust if more successful players are drafted after him or her.

Re: California classic
Also how can anyone be "disappointed" in pick #40? You should really lower your expectations of mid to late 2nd round picks.
Don't believe me? Go research the data on successful players selected 40 and beyond. The odds are not good.
