Even though I don’t think he’s coming here, I am crossing my fingers that he does the right thing and makes the right choice.

Choose LAC Kawhi.

So it sounded like he wanted a second star with the Clippers at least.

But if it's about maximizing his money, he could sign ad 1+1 with one of the LA teams too, though I guess the LA teams wouldn't have his Bird Rights?

So he can only maximize through Toronto? And then next year, he'd try to get a sign and trade?

Thing is, will the LA teams keep their cap space open for him next year or the year after?

Two years especially is a long time in the NBA.

Relax guys and Look it this way:

If he signs with Lakers now you are never getting him.

If he signs with us(Raptors) on a 2 year deal, he is coming to Clippers for that supermax in 2021.

(Unless Masai can land Giannis in 2021..both Nigerians..Masai is a close family friend.helped them immigrate to Greece)

Per @WindhorstESPN, Kawhi Leonard is still interested in joining the Clippers if they find another star player with their assets
@WindhorstESPN continued by saying it's lining up for Kawhi Leonard to stay with the Raptors before re-evaluating the Clippers and Lakers' situations in free agency next summer

That’s mildly annoying.

Gasol, Ibaka, Lowry, VanVleet & Siakam (restricted) are all free agents next summer.

With the richest owner in the league, it might have been worth it to try to sign Butler.

Not ideal to max him out but at least eliminate any excuse Kawhi might have about not having enough help.

It might be that he doesn't have such a bullish view of SGA and Shamet as Clippers do.

That's strange to me since I see Shai as Kawhi Jr. The dude is quiet, gritty, hard-working, and (seemingly) introverted just like Kawhi. I would have thought he would want to join just to play with his long-lost son. lol

Gasol, Ibaka and Lowry are all old vets and won't be getting their current salary, all 3 will get paid less, which will help re-signing VanVleet and Siakam(Max most likely).

If it's the truth then it is I guess...

I am fine with however our FO handled it. I don't think they should have gone after Jimmy only hoping it would increase the chances of signing Kawhi, they play a more strategic game than that. Even if we don't get Kawhi, the last 2 seasons have shown that if there's any way of improving our roster the Clippers will find a way, even if it's not obvious to us right now.

Ballmer's money isn't the issue, cap management/flexibility is- if we sign or trade for Butler and don't get Kawhi, we are stuck with this for the next few years. When you're capped out, you're capped out- doesn't matter how many billions the owner has.
