Can we take a minute and discuss TJ Leaf?

I'm hoping that we take a look at McDermott at the four to compete with him for the backup minutes. I think that could possibly open up time on the wing for Warren, Lamb, Vic and allow for Brogdon or Sumner to play some depending on the situation. I think McConnell will definitely play some point guard minutes so it will be tough competition for minutes on the wing. I keep Leaf as a rotational big in the event of am injury.

I am quite sad for Leaf. But it's not a hopeless case. He sure looked different last season and he was playing inside more than during his rookie year. Maybe he's still trying to find where and how he'd fit? He's clearly our best shooting big when he is clicking, and I think Nate could actually run some plays for him if we need to open up the paint some more. I've watched him back in UCLA, the confidence is just not there.

Leaf talked this offseason about that he’s not a stretch 4. Never was, likely never will be. If we forget that, I think for an 18th pick, he’s developing reasonably well and on a realistic schedule for a young big man. Not as fast as we’d hoped, but, worth his contract and worth keeping around. I definitely would pick up his option on year 4. I just think he’ll continue to get better each of the next two, and he really does seem like a nice counterpiece with Myles and Goga.

I've said all along he does not look like an NBA player to me. I was irate when the team passed on John Collins and took Leaf. I have nothing against him personally and he might prove me wrong at some point but he looks like a bust. He's gonna have to play I'd send him to the GLeague and if he can't find some game he's gonna end up playing in China or some other place.

Dougie is not a PF. If he has to play 4 we're gonna lose a lot of games.

Cool video. He’s clearly committed and putting in the work. As his trainer said in the beginning of that video TJ knows this is a big year for him and it’s good to see he’s going all.

Yeah this is it for him he's gonna be the backup PF and if he fails in his minutes Warren will have to move over and play those minutes. I said he may prove me wrong but I'm not optimistic.
