Who cares if it's "just" a meeting?! You take it regardless especially if Kawhi signs a 1+1 and goes back into FA.newyorker4ever wrote:VCBC wrote:So Perry decided to pass on a meeting w Kawhi for 4 bums? And yes, he could've signed Randle and Portis and still had a max slot.

I'm sure the Knicks were the 4th team on his list of Toronto, Lakers, Clips and Knicks so we didn't have the best chance at getting him to actually choose us so the Knicks chose to start the process of becoming a winning team and creating a winning culture which is what other big name free agents will want to choose to play for you. So the main thing you said was they passed on a meeting not on signing Kawhi. It was juts a meeting that we weren't gonna get until the 3rd and by that time we wouldn't of been able to get much good young talent to come play for us especially on the type of contracts we got for the type B level free agents.
The guys we brought in are not bums so i think that's just a dumb thing to even say. I get it that it's not the big names we were all hoping for but all of the guys that we signed are good at certain things but none are good at everything but the guys that are good at everything are the super stars. Whoever the Lakers get to put around Lebron and AD won't be good at everything, the guys Kawhi had around him last year weren't good at everything and this goes for every team that does have a super star or two. The Nets had no players at all that were good at everything but they played as a team and became a more attractive situation to the big names then the Knicks because of that so now this is what the Knicks need to do.

You're about to sell your business and 2 PE shops offer the same terms, 1 shop you've met with, the other canceled a meeting with you and has a reputation of being a chip shop.
It's just bad, bad business especially when a meeting with Kawhi was a choice to focus on him or Taj, Ellington, Payton, Bullock.
The day the Knicks drop this is the "Mecca" and "We are the Knicks" mentality is when the league will start taking them seriously. The arrogance and idiocy is off the charts in Dolan and Mills, jury still out on Perry

PG: Payton
SG: Barrett
SF: Knox
PF: Randle
C: Robinson
6th man: Smith Jr
7: Portis
8: Bullock
9: Gibson
10: Ntilikina
11: Dotson
12: Trier
13: Ellington
Inactive: Iggy and TBD
Payton over DSJ starting because he is a better pure facilitator and defender who also has chemistry with Randle from NO. Randle as the high pick option and primary scorer at PF. Barrett is an obvious at SG as a secondary playmaker and iso scorer. Knox as a spacer, cutter and spot up option at SF. Mitch for his defense and pick and roll with Payton lobs and dumps.
DSJ can be a sparkplug off the bench replacing either guard position. Portis gives Randle a break and takes his duties. Bullock replaces either Knox or Barrett providing another shooter and defender. Gibson then relieves Mitch giving them another inside defender to go with Portis' scoring. Certain nights Frank can come in instead of Bullock for defensive reasons and keeping a secondary playmaker on the court. Other nights Dotson can get the call. Trier will have to work his way into the rotation. Ellington is on the bench as a vet presence and situational shooter.
What do you guys think? Seems pretty balanced to me.
Also, it was interesting seeing in the 2 years Portis and Gibson were teammates they never shared the court together. It would seem like the 2 would compliment each other.

He’s a good and skilled passer too. What if he transforms his game more and can start playing point.
Something special about both him and Mitch ofc.

he's slightly smallish as a 2 so i've said before if ever wants to be a starter he needs to be a point. i would hope he knows this too and starts working towards that. he's already a pretty efficient scorer and would be one of the taller points but he has to change his mindset to look for others more.

Zion's gonna be a beast, he's a hard worker. Get a good mid range game and the skys the limit for him

Remember Iggy's 'knick of time' tweet? Well, the Warriors has multiple 3rd teams waiting to be involved for him and a pick but waited to talk to him on preferred destination.... he nixed one of them, the Knicks. Especially after his comment about them getting nobody.
So it's time to stop obsessing over that, it wasn't happening.
Also, at the request of the division rival he was negotiating with and Pat the rat was more than happy to oblige the Knicks were never considered as the destination for the player and pick with that deal, either.
The Knicks were shut out of the deals by other teams more than anything.

The whole narrative that Trier is a “selfish” player is extremely unfair. I really don’t remember moments this season where I thought that.
We should absolutely value his scoring off the bench. He could be one of those guys (when we become a good team) that provide a major spark when we’re playing at Sacramento or something and it’s 34-21 at the end of the first quarter.

This ish is too funny. I'm just glad we handled our business. Now I can go down to Myrtle Beach for the week, enjoy Summer League and my vacation without having to refresh my phone every 5 minutes
Why are people even talking about our core when we're in year two of a rebuild? That's what's funny. We just started and right now we don't know what Knox will be to say he's part of the core, we don't know what Barrett will be to say he's part of the core, we don't know what DSJ will be to say he's part of the core, we don't know if J.Randle is the player he was last year and actually puts the effort in to get better on defense to end up keeping him to make him part of the core.
It's too early to be talking core in year two of the rebuild especially when none of the players added in year two have even played a game for us yet.
Those guys are our core for now. Whether they are long term pieces is what the team is figuring out, and that will likely take several years of commitment.
