It sure sounds like the Suns basically paid us to rob them.

Might we also keep it as a warning in the back of our minds? That Phoenix essentially paid us to take this guy off our hands? If he can't get healthy and won't play defense, we might be looking to dump him with a 2nd or two pretty soon ourselves.

It's definitely possible, but I think I have more faith in our front office than I do Phoenix's, even if I have some complaints at times lol.

Yeah, I have no idea what our FO is doing. Odds are they have no idea either. I almost called the cops on this one. Still contemplating it. TJ is a straight scorer and if he can stay healthy, a potential all star. Now excuse me while I go cry.

I've heard some people expecting him to start at the 4, and some people hoping he'll take that Lance/Tyreke role of the scorer off the bench at either the 3 or 4.

Scorer off the bench playing both forwards positions would be a good role for him. If you start him at pf rebounding may be a problem.

Some background information that you might appreciate. I know I did. Back in 2017 TJ was had a mysterious head injury that kept him out of many games. The local beat writer Paul Coro, who covered the Suns for the Arizona Republic newspaper, was also mysteriously fired in the same timeframe. One of our insiders posted this nugget:

BTW, I was big fan of TJ. He's an incredibly reliable scorer and super efficient. On a winning team he's going to be one of the best sixth men in league. Right now it looks like you guys got us on this deal; however, I hope we can pick up another decent free agent with cap space we have left from the trade.

The biggest issue that has plagued Warren in his NBA career so far is lack of consistency. He just found his long range shot last season. Assuming he can continue to shoot it from deep at the high level like that and not dip back to 22-26% i think he'll be just fine. It's like that breakup saying "its not you, it's me". I think more of the problems are on the Suns for lack of development and not having a good culture there for a guy like Warren. David West (i know, he's biased) said this about him in a article- "He’s always been a guy that wants to win – goes out and plays hard – he’s always competing,” https://theathletic.com/613378/2018/10/26/about-42000-shots-how-t-j-warren-found-long-range-improved-his-game/

Sounds like a Pritchard type of player. Other articles i've read about him say he's a workhorse and a gym rat. Somebody that is all-basketball 24/7 as someone said in one of the articles I read. I think being around a decent culture, especially if they somehow keep Thad Young, will do wonders for him.

Compare Warrens stats to Tobias Harris. You will be pleasantly surprised... especially when you consider warren comes at 1/3 the THarris cost.

Come on, that 4 rebounds and 1 assists more are certainly worth this 26 milions more in salary!

Strikes me as maybe more or less frustration from local guys into the mismanagement there. Reports were that they were shopping him for awhile. It appears this was just the price it cost to clear pure cap space.

Got to say, I find it hard to believe that the Suns didn't shop Warren around. If, as the article says, they were already shopping him the previous trade deadline, they must have a good idea of his trade value already.

I think it was more a matter of timing. Suns made the classic FA mistake - clearing cap before they have FAs lined up ready to sign. Every team that does that tends to overpay for cap space, and perhaps that was the case too for the Suns. At the time of the draft, teams were still hoarding cap space in the hopes of signing superstars (I guess the tampering was just starting in earnest). Pacers presumably were more clear headed and decided right away that they won't have better use of the space.

The whole point of this move was to save $arver's money. Don't try to analyse it from basketball perspective.

It let you sign Rubio in the end.

They also traded Josh Jackson for literally nothing to open up cap for Rubio.
