McCann showing he's more than average

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Aug 23, 2007 1:09 pm

"I'm trying to see the ball longer against lefties and letting it get deep," said McCann, who didn't homer off a lefty his first 54 games this season. "I've gotten a couple of good pitches to hit. I had the bases loaded, and the guy had to throw me a fastball. A lot of it has to do with timing, too, getting in the right situation, with the right count.

"I'm trying to put together better at-bats, just stay consistent," McCann.

"I'm seeing the ball better, not trying to hit the ball out of the pitcher's hand. I'm finally getting better counts to hit, and it's working."

McCann was hitting .258 on July 7. This was after winning the Silver Slugger award last year with a .333 average in his first full season in the majors. He also hit 24 home runs and drove in 93 runs.

He's been great. Too bad we don't have any pitching for about three days in a row.
