Looks like we wanted a veteran forward who could tell campfire stories and were willing to eat some money to make it happen.

He needs a bounce back season to justify the disparity in the money.

Interesting, I bet Tommy is looking to unload Ian too if he can. What about our front court depth though?
I guess the Latvian dude has a chance to make the team

All the rumors were true about Howard and Miles has an expiring deal so the Wiz have to pay a lil' bit extra. I swear, even though his numbers are bad, when he played the Wiz, it always appeared he made at least 50% of everything he threw up. Again, they are changing the culture. I knew they weren't bringing back Howard. But does that mean Boogie is coming?

He does? Who cares? He'll be gone in a year. The key was getting rid of Howard and getting a professional who can play a little for a team going nowhere. I'm fine with the move. If they can get rid of Mahinmi somehow without giving up a pick, Shep should get votes for Executive of the Year. He's cleaning up EG's moves, including giving Howard a PO in his second year.

To me, this was better than just waiving him. Even if it's a veteran who is on the decline, that's about the best you can get for an aging center coming off his second serious back injury and with a few red flags.

Such an idiotic move signing Howard. A clown move to sign an actual clown who can no longer play basketball.

Props for moving on to Tommy. CJ can’t play anymore either but team needs an adult in the room.

He does? Who cares? He'll be gone in a year. You're not paying the extra 3 million and it's just for a year. The key was getting rid of Howard and getting a professional who can play a little for a team going nowhere. I'm fine with the move. I'm not saying it's terrible, but you have to factor in the cost being less room under the tax to use those TPE's to absorb salary at some point down the line. My spitball numbers are that we're down to around $6 million or so under the tax, so we probably won't use the bigger TPE's now.

It's basically a question of if CJ Miles is worth $3.1 million (or maybe a little bit more if Dwight would have given up some money in a buyout). It's OK, but full flexibility with the TPE could be valuable at the 2020 deadline.

Edit - actually, the numbers I have are without Simmons getting cut yet, so there's still some room. But, it's getting tight and the potential of the injured player exception means that everything we add potentially comes out of our ability to absorb bad salary.

I'm kinda on the fence - I do like brining in a veteran forward, just not sure if this was optimal.

Bringing Cousins in would be almost as bad as signing Howard.

Miles was awful with Toronto last year. He was replacement level with Memphis.

Dwight was solid to me via the eye test and at least average via PPA as well.

I don't see how this move makes us better. Handing Dwight's minutes over to Mahinmi is a big loss.

CJ had injury issues last season. 32 isnt old for a spot up shooter off the bench.

In the 17/18 season he attempted 12 3s per 36 minutes shooting 36%.

I'm sure Brooks grew tired of Markieff Morris' antics; I'd be real surprised if they made room to bring in Demarcus Cousins.

We did need depth incase the kids can't ball... I'd rather have had RH-J but what's ever !
