I understand it only takes one dumb desperate team but that contract makes him close to untreatable

Speaking of the Dallas picks, one of their main competitors that they'd need to fall off in order to get into the playoffs just turned into the favorite for the #1 seed in the West. High five!

Yea but OKC just fell out of the playoffs. It's a push right now.

They would ask for several picks back from us, as well as some of our young players ie Knox, RJ, Trier.

You'd be looking at a Knicks team built around Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, and Russell Westbrook.

Looking at OKC, Presti clearly made one of the worst FO decisions of all time with his choice of Westbrook over Durant and Harden, and he doubled down on it by making those decisions years apart. However, the trade of PG is a coup when you frame it in the context of the two transactions involving him.

Thunder trade Oladipo and Sabonis for Paul George.

Two years later...

Thunder trade Paul George for 5 1st round picks including 4 completely unprotected, 2 unprotected pick swaps, an ultra young PG in SGA still on his rookie contract, and an expiring vet who could yield more draft capital at the deadline in Gallo.

Talk about buying low and selling high. My goodness.

True, didn't think about that. Hopefully they can't find a taker for Russ too quickly.

Curious as to what Westbrook’s value is around the league, can they dump his salary all the while get a number of assets in return

not to be that guy, but maybe we should have held out for that interview with Kawhi then seen if we could have thrown a ton of our picks at OKC for PG.

He never choose Westbrook over Durant. He choose Durant, Ibaka and Westbrook over Harden. His biggest mistake was choosing Westbrook over Harden.

True but it was really risky. Kawhi seemed dead set on LA since the time he asked out of San Antonio. That was understandable why they allowed him to hold them hostage

Exactly. This was a play to get to LA.

They got rid of Harden because they were too cheap, and didn't want to extend him (just like the Knicks with KP). They wanted to keep Durant, but he hit free agency first, and decided to get out of there, once it was just him and WB. After that, they gave Russ the supermax extension, since he was the only one left.

I am sure if they had a choice, they would have kept Durant, but he wanted out. At least they kept him for his first 2 contracts though. They had him for 9 years, which is what every team can control a player for if they want. It doesn't matter if they are not happy. Team has control for the first 9 years.

Knicks gave up 5 years of KP because they were scared by the injury or whatever. We better hope they are correct about the injury concerns.

I really doubt it.

Trade value is all about the most recent narrative surrounding a player.

Russ used to be the hyper-athletic albeit low IQ clear cut alpha in OKC.

Now he's more of a cautionary tale of a player whose inefficient stat-stuffing doesn't win games.

OKC will probably move him for a couple of picks and expirings and call it a day.
