With Kawhi off the books, I'd like to take a shot with Cousins

Post#1 » by Lakers In 5 » Sat Jul 6, 2019 8:00 am

Yes, you heard that right. Now before people sprint to their torches and pitchforks, allow me to provide some arguments as to why. First of all, I know I need to address his injury history. We've seen with Kobe that it ain't easy to return from an achilles, and Cousins' season with the Warriors wasn't exactly great overall. However, I thought he showed flashes of brilliance and good old Boogie. In play as well as the daily tech gathering. However, that was year one of return, and on so many instances we've seen that players need some time to get back onto their feet. Signing him on a long short term contract (if that makes sense), team options for instance. What I'm trying to say is a contract with multiple outs. If it works out, great. If it doesn't work out, no big deal, we can easily get rid of him. Cousins is a shot at low risk, high reward.

Now to get to point two: Anthony Davis. Two centers in the modern NBA doesn't work they said. That's true, unless those centers possess the skill that those two guys have, and we've seen in New Orleans it can work. It is possible. Unfortunately, just as the train got rolling, Cousins obviously got hurt and that was the end of that. However, those brief months they were together brought some very, very exciting moments. They played like big guards, rather than just bigs. Playing two bigs usually results in a full paint, which wouldn't just hurt each other, but also hurt LeBron. Davis and Cousins however are both able to step outside and create space. And, and this is my favourite point, they are a P&R disaster. They don't set picks for others, they can run the P&R together.

Davis is his best friend (I think), LeBron is here to provide leadership. This is one of our few shots at greatness and we have to take it.

yeah I would consider even though I hate the idea, but he also got a taste of winning culture and that might solve a lot of his bs in the past. We could use a few brutes like Boogie and Morris.

Mcgee is starting the Centre spot
AD at PF

Maybe if he willing to come off the bench and way less money then KCP getting sure

Test him out. But not a fan, but there isn't much out there

need to consider PG spot IMO ... I mean it's a toss up between Rondo and Caruso, but are there any other PG's who could start?

I saw that man come back over 6 weeks early from a torn quad after tearing his achilles, and he won a final games off sheer will. I would take him. That and because I buy the 7 game passes for the Pelicans every year to take my cousin and niece to games, I saw first hand that AD responds well to Cousins and Rondo barking and being the bad guys so he doesn't have to be

LeBron's going to be feeding AD... Don't need Cousins...

I genuinely dislike him... But I guess, if healthy, he's the best talent out there still... It's that 'if he's healthy' bit though... He's not... Not in the body or the mind...

He did not cause problems in Golden State, he even came back early and hurt o try and help the team win. HE was a 16 and 8 guy on one leg, blocked 4x the amount of shots Morris did on one leg too.

GSW had a choice because they hard capped themselves and Livingston hasn't decided if he will retire or not. They could not retain him and Looney, had to pick one. They also waived bye bye to Cook and Bell for the same reason

Sign him. I disliked Artest just as much, until he was a Laker.

I’d love to get Cousins. Just don’t think it’s in the cards at this point. Need a PG. if Avery Bradley available I’d concur and call it an off season. Disappointed we swung gong for the fences and struck out, but you have to try.

I’d rather have paid Cousins than KCP.

No. Need McGee to deliver those hard hard fouls on Kawhi and George.

Who is Cousins going to guard? You really need a slow center who needs the ball to be effective ? If so thats sad

I don't like it... I think what we saw of him last year is as good as it gets. We'll see more injuries, he's lost a step has no lift... Add in his crappy attitude, I hope the Lakers stay clear of him

I'm for it for 2 reasons: A:If he can come back, and give good minutes he helps turn us back into a deep team with alot of good players. The talent is/was there. B:I don't want him giving that talent next door. Let's not let them get a 3-headed monster.

For me it's about the $$. Like Houston did with Carmelo last year.....you bring him in, and if he's screwing things up, you waive him. Only give 1-year deal.

Looking up Cousin's stats...the guy did have around 16ppg, and about 8rebounds, with about a 21.5per. I mean that's far from terrible.

It's more upstairs with me. He's gonna have to have a contract we can just flush.

No room for Cousins with McGee & AD... McGee will start & AD will slide over to the 5 with small ball lineups...
