Those 6 are pretty much guaranteed to make the playoffs. The last 2 spots are a toss up. Mavs can definitely compete for one of the 2 spots.

Lakers

Definitely not guaranteed. They have no one outside AD and Lebron. And neither one ever plays a full season.

What the KD and KL signings showed is that players want to go to winners or at least those close to it. Not no 17 win team. Another tanking year wouldn't have done much for us in terms of having guys want to run here. Hopefully this year we see some forward progression. East is pretty open.

I would question what AD will do next since, let's be honest, the Lakers making the playoffs is no real guarantee. That said,he's so tied to Rich Paul and LeBron, he's staying put. Next year will be interesting.

Who did we get that was special? Aside from Randle, everyone we got are just role players. And we paid a lot for them. The only good thing about our deals are that they have team options for next year. But other than that Bullock, Ellington, and Gibson are nothing to write home about. Payton has been available for years. Perry ended up wanting to bring his pet project from Orlando here.

I'm not saying they are these super special role players but to Perry, they held more value then waiting for a no, and I think it's fairly obvious we would've been no'd at this point. I don't really disagree. Plus, the guys we did sign are likely better fits then anyone we would've signed now and would've wanted to come. Who's left? Green would've went to LA or Toronto. He wants to win. Cousins? Lord no. Rondo? KCP? I get that these guys we signed could've still been in FA had we waiting but that's no guarantee and they likely would've gone elsewhere (Lakers to fill in their empty roster). Knicks need to start trending forward not continue to linger around 17 wins.

Between Lakers, Mavs, OKC (if they retool rather then rebuild), Spurs.

Kings and Pelicans somewhere slightly further down.

I agree with this thinking now. Tanking is great if you get a lot of super high picks (Sixers). It is terrible for free agency though...

Frank + DSJR + Dotson + Trier + 3 FRP (1 unprotected) for WB

Russell Westbrook — Elfrid Payton
RJ Barrett — Wayne Ellington
Kevin Knox — Reggie Bullock
Julius Randle — Taj Gibson
Mitchell Robinson — Bobby Portis

Let’s get ourselves involved now

WB makes 38 Mil this year. Aside from the fact that matching that means you are moving most of our bench, who you pairing WB with? No reason to do this.

Why not... that's a fking deep squad... the East is weak... plus most of those guys fall off the cap in a season or two.. Westbrook contract still matches his play...

Don't know how it gets done because we need to match WB $38 million for a trade.. maybe a trade for early in the season

Good move for the NBA. As long as it wasn’t Lakers, it’s all good.
