For bottom of the barrel free agency, this is all fine. If they picked them on July 1st, this would’ve been a terrible run of free agency.

I like the Cousins gamble especially since he's played with AD. I'm perplexed by the Rondo signing after all the data showing he was a negative player for them.

Not like they have a ton of options. He was actually ahead of Quinn Cook in RPM. I wonder if they just go with a KCP/Green backcourt a good amount of the time with Lebron running point.

I'm think some kind of bluff on the Mavs part. Make the Grizzlies match a potential high number.
At this point, if the Mavs are making him an offer they really aren't bluffing. Right now Mavs can still operate over the cap, sign all the free agents they committed to with various exceptions and keep a $21 mil TPE on the books up until the deadline, giving them time to look for deals.
If the Mavs would make Wright an offer, they would have to give up that TPE to get $22 mil in capspace instead. But then they would have to use that space before signing other FAs. So the Grizzlies matching an offer would leave the Mavs with a bunch of capspace that they have to use immediately. Which given whats left in free agency seems a lot worse than a TPE.

They liked each other in Sac from what I remember. But, the run of LA making...interesting FA decisions continues. Esp. if they grab JR Smith.
Rondo/Davis/Cousins did reasonably well together in New Orleans. Green/Lebron feels like a pretty sizable upgrade over Moore/Jrue. Still.... I can't imagine this is what the Lakers had in mind when they pushed all in.

91st overall for a supposed high IQ vet vs. 94th for bench guy playing 14 minutes a night. IIRC Rondo was the only guy on the entire Lakers roster with a negative +/- while playing with Lebron. Really he was close to the bottom in a ton of categories on that team last year among rotation players (neck and neck with Beasley in most categories). He's such a poor fit and just not good even if he was. Devin Harris or Calderon would have been better options.

Rondo’s allegedly turned into a solid locker room guy, even going so far as to baking cookies for the players every week or so himself. Plus, he’s the one vet that effectively takes about how the trade talks were tearing apart the locker room, pointed some blame at Lebron, and yet maintained the respect of Lebron. That’s worth something, especially at the minimum, and especially since you can top bench hi at this stage of his career and use him at backup or 3rd PG minutes.

Defensive coaching staff better get to work. Think rondo will be in a back up role.

Yeah, I'm not a particularly big fan of either Rondo or Cousins, but I don't mind the signings. Cousins has played with AD, and Rondo has played with each of AD *and* LeBron. In an offseason where the Lakers are basically returning a total of two players from last year's roster, a little familiarity might go a long way.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't pointing it out as a good thing, moreso just saying it's slim pickens, and that he ranked a little higher in that category than a guy that most consider a good pickup (which I agree with since he can actually shoot the ball). I think I'd take Rondo over those 2 as an option to run the 2nd team when Lebron is off the floor for what its worth. Burke seems like a more interesting option than either of those guys.

Good for him? He's still got a careers worth of being a knucklehead and still is a negative player, which was confirmed in spades specifically for this team last year. There's plenty of other vets out there who are good lockerroom guys but have at least a chance of offering something on the floor. It was a mistake last year and they're making it again. Might as well sign Beasley again too.
Edit: the guy also spit on an opponent on national tv last year. He hasn't grown up.

I know this isn't the hot topic, but the Spurs just traded Davis Bertans to the Wizards for space to sign DerMarre Carroll to 3/$21M.

I figure Carroll as a Spurs type of player. I'm surprise it took this long for them to get to him. I wasn't aware they ended up trading Bertans to get the space necessary to fit Carroll into their cap.

By doing so, they were able to save the MLE which they immediately gave for 2 years to Marcus Morris.

I'm a bit surprised Cousins was was willing to take so little money for a second straight year. Getting less than $8M total for his age 28 and 29 seasons is not great for his career earnings. At the least, I would have guessed Boogie could have gotten the full non-taxpayer MLE each season.

Yeah this is all I can find for details now, but Charlotte's 2nd should be pretty high and they're getting back a 2nd that may not even convey? Makes no sense whatsoever even if they end up getting a pick back as it likely has very little chance of being as good as what they're giving.
I really thought they'd get a small incentive for allowing the Celtics to retain their cap holds and the mid level.

Guess the pick is very likely to be the Nets 2nd, not Charlotte's. Still dumb to include a pick to make a horrendous signing.
Edit: guessing the pick Boston gave up is the fake 31-55 Atlanta 2nd?

Especially since we know they aren't using that TPE.
