you overestimate our competitiveness. sure, we might win as much as 50 games because this is exactly the sort of roster brad excels at maximizing, and we do have some talent. but this year is the Celtics' version of the American Idol audition round. (or Eurovision for our non-US friends.)
by the end of the year we need to figure out the following:
- Can Kemba fit into Brad's system to be our PG of the (immediate) future?
- Are Brown and/or Tatum guys who are legit championship pieces?
- Which if any of our unheralded big men can be a quality starting C?
- Where if anywhere do our rookies project to fit into the long-term vision?
- Can we showcase our bench depth to package them for better players?
- What are our key need(s) with the Memphis pick?
this is what we're looking at this year. if it looks like rebuilding, it is, except that we will not be a lottery team so we won't have our own lotto pick. luckily we've outsourced our tank once again.
so don't expect the roster decisions or even the coaching and playing time decisions this year to make sense in terms of winning at all costs. that isn't the point. the point is to set us up for competing within the next year or two, either by having our best young guys step up or by trading for the next superstar who comes available.
it's going to be a fun season for hoops nerds. ainge is going to be involved in every major trade dealing at the deadline, and we're going to have a great time arguing about wild extrapolations from small sample sizes and fleeting glimpses.
but competitive? nah, not really.
If we can all buy into this and understand, for once, our limitations going into the season, it's gonna be allot of fun posting on this board....I think that last year we all had the sense that about all we had to do was show up and get #18.....but it's never that simple or that easy...Hopefully, by lowering our expectations a might, we will enjoy watching this team again and find that we as a board will have fewer divisive issues....Lets get rolling right off with summer league...Enjoy!
