Bucks close to signing Thansis on 2 year contract for 3 million total

I hope Bucks know what they're doing...very little to no basketball upside. Obvious Giannis upside if things go well. But so many ways this could go bad. What if Giannis doesn't like that Thanasis isn't getting playing time, what is Thanasis lobbies Giannis for playing time, what if Giannis and Thanasis clash, what if Bucks need roster spot, etc etc.

I hope Bucks know what they're doing...very little to no basketball upside. Obvious Giannis upside if things go well. But so many ways this could go bad. What if Giannis doesn't like that Thanasis isn't getting playing time, what is Thanasis lobbies Giannis for playing time, what if Giannis and Thanasis clash, what if Bucks need roster spot, etc etc.

I think he can contribute defensively as he puts a lot of energy there but his offense is problematic indeed. What im hopping is tha t the Bucks training staff can balance this and make him serviceable.

Ive heard a lot of things from nepotism to defensive upside and whatnot. the contract isnt bad but i guess we couldve had Korver for that money?

We also trying to trade both Ersan and Luer so maybe there is still room?

His playstyle and energy definitely suits NBA more than Euro basketball for sure,personally i believe with our staff he can turn into a good defender but i also believe this signing is something in the middle,get a defensive high energy guy and also have Giannis pleased .

I support doing whatever it takes to get Giannis to resign. Superstars run this league especially small market teams. If you want to sit on your high horse while other teams do the dirty work to get Giannis dont be surprised when he leaves.

Lebron basically picks his own coach/gm, Leonard just got the Clippers to empty the cupboards for PG, and those are just recent examples. Stars have been dictating terms for decades. Wasting our 15th spot on his bro is a minor concession compared to what he could really demand.

He's barely a Euroleague player sadly. He has plus NBA athleticism, he's a hound on D but he fouls A LOT. No offense outside of dunk at all, and he lacks in discipline defensively. I hope that I will eat crow and he will be a contributor in spurts

I want to be as annoyed/outraged as some of you but sadly, I think this take is probably the correct one.

I 100% get why people are annoyed by signing Thannies, but I've been wanting a guy like him on the end of the bench for a long time -- giant wing sized, versatile defensively, makes plays above the rim on both ends. This is a distinct if minor need for us in my eyes, and a worthwhile piece on a small contract. The fact that he's Giannis' brother is a perk or a detriment, depending on your perspective.

With regard to Thannies more specifically, I think he's better suited for the NBA than Europe due to pace/shotclock -- athleticism flat out means more in our league. Again, this is about finding guys who can soak up some matchup specific regular season minutes for cheap.

I kinda agree but there are better players with a similar skill set available (you know who I'm talking about ).

At worst thanasis is a motivating or calming voice for Giannis when he needs it and other guys might not want to challenge him. Bud had a say or will have a say if he is signed so I’ll trust his judgement and his staff to develop thanasis into what his staff needs him to be
