OG Anunoby and Norman Powell are our starting wings

Post#1 » by Chriscross » Sun Jul 7, 2019 8:52 pm

1) What do you see as their role in the starting line?

2) Do you think their games compliment each other well?

Going from 8th and 9th men on the team to starting wings. Might be a long year for them..

OG is still very young and has a high ceiling, might pan out to be very good in the future. Norm however is only like 2-3 years younger than Ibaka (lol) and at this point i doubt he's going to improve much. I hope Masai moves him.

Im almost certain that OG Anunoby is the Starting SF. He was the Starting SF before Kawhi came. But I actually think Nurse will not let Powell be the Starting SG, Norman will stick to his role. I have this feeling that Matt Thomas's shooting will impress Nurse enough, that Thomas gets the Green role to compliment the other 4 Starters. Just get open and make long shots.

Also Free Agency and the Offseason is not done yet, I could see more pieces being added to the Raptors before Training Camp.

OG already has 68 games of experience as a starter, he'll be fine.

Being a starting wing beside someone like demar who takes all the attention is much different than playing with Powell. Same reason why green looks so great playing with a guy like Kawhi. People will turn on him as the year goes unless we get a lead wing.

Firmly believe Powell will be solid. He's a dynamic player offensively. Defensively he can be a terror fighting through on and off ball screens and locking his guy up on ball. My only fear with Powell is that he gets lost once the defense starts rotating and he is on the weak side. His eyes tend to lock on the ball carrier and he gets caught in no mans land when he should be in rotation.

OG will need some time to figure things out after a rough year.

Raps desperately need to go find another sg/sf that can shoot the 3. Guy has to be at LEAST league average.

This is slightly worrying. Stanley Johnson will help, but only as a depth piece. I don't really think he is a capable player at this point.

Otherwise, our frontcourt and backcourt are set for at least one more year, or until Lowry's play falls off a cliff. I think even more worrying is who else other than FVV can create off the bench. We've seen FVV get COLD for large stretches, so it'll be interesting to see who can pick up their play if that happens.

you can make all the excuses you want, and you can also ignore that Raps won 4 straight against the healthy Bucks who had the MVP, COTY, EOTY...and beat the Sixers who had a starting lineup of 4 max players. I know you're real salty deep down

We beat them in game 1 and 4 where Klay played both games and balled out and still lost.

Really hoping playing with Kawhi for a year has the same effect on OG that playing with Russ for a year had on Oladipo

For a Bucks team who only had to stop Giannis and no one else. Duh. But when KD showed up, y'all scared. Then when he got injured, you guys relieved and cheered for his demise. Truth.

I'm happy for the Raps, fan since day 1. I knew what could have been the outcome if KD was healthy. Admit it.

If the Raptors had a few lucky bounces go their way in Game 2, the Warriors would have shockingly gotten swept. The Raptors were playing that much better than the Warriors. And no one would talk about Durant going down in Game 5 or Thompson going down in Game 6. But since it happened, people need an excuse, because no one likes being blatantly wrong.

Unless OG takes a Pascal-like leap in year 3, him as regular starter will be due to lack of a better choice.
And Norm is useful off the bench but he’s had plenty of opportunities to earn the permanent starting role and hasn’t.

OG has all the physical tools to be a good rotation player, problem is he's so robotic. Something about his moves are just so stiff

Alright so we'll also take away the Warriors championship in 2015 since Kyrie/Love were out...also we'll take away the Warriors championship in 2018 since CP3 was out for game 6/7 in the WCF...the list goes on, shall I continue?
