Giannis 2021 - Should the Raptors start recruiting this year?

Post#1 » by jimmy keys » Mon Jul 8, 2019 4:25 pm

The Clippers made no attempt to hide their year long recruitment of Kawhi Leonard. It was well planned and masterfully executed and congrats to them on how it all worked out. You can argue that the Raptors already started this same process with Giannis on January 1st 2018, when 1000+ greek fans sang to him post game. It's pretty obvious Masai has his eyes set on adding him for years and I think the Raptors have an edge on recruiting foreign superstars over any franchise in the NBA. Will we see attempts to recruiting him this year? Thoughts?

Trust me Masai has been recruiting Giannis for years now. Giannis is coming home in 2021.

Do you think Giannis is a realistic option? Or just a pipe dream? He did say wants to retire as a Buck.

If Bucks don't make finals or better yet don't make conference finals this year, then yes the race for Giannis will be on because he probably won't sign that extension.

Bucks are capped out and hoping that Khris Middleton develops into a player that can be 2nd best player on a championship team. Good luck with that.

When did he say that?

There's a lot of players that say stuff along those lines but we all know there is no loyalty in basketball.
Even Zion said he wants to be a Pelican for life, but is that really gonna happen? Probably not.

If he takes supermax next summer then its over until he is 31ish? We need Bucks to take a step back and/or lose at least in the second round.

Easy to say that as long as they're in ascendancy.

But now they're capped out and he has to hope that Khris Middleton is good enough to be a second option that he can win a title with...

I think if they miss finals this year, he won't sign an extension and will at least consider free agency in 2021. This coming season, they have a ton of pressure on themselves imo because they have to prove he can win there.

Definitely a pipe dream. He's not the type to jump ship I don't think. My favorite superstar in the league, personality wise. After everything that's happened to us, I'd feel kinda bad if we were recruiting him hard while he's under contract. Milwaukee deserves him.

Hell yeah...Phil Handy already said he would love to work with Giannis and we all know Masai had started the ground work long ago to recruit him and still doing so in subtle ways to this day.

**Edit: Not saying we're guaranteed to get him but there's nothing wrong with starting the recruitment process now.

He’ll be here, in his prime and gonna teach Kawhi a lesson. Hopefully in 2 years he won’t be too broken down to give the freak a real challenge.

And this city can show some real love to a superstar who actually has a personality.

Giannis is not Afro-American. He's Afro-European.

Different type of person.

More cultured, more worldly, and more capable of living in a place like Milwaukee (despite it not having the best souvlaki, lol).

He won't be easily removed from Milwaukee, like Kawhi was from Toronto.

This will happen.

Bucks will not win the chip in 2020.

Masai already sent up satellite orbiting above Milwaukee for the upcoming season.

Very realistic

If anyone can get him it'll be Masai.

He has strong ties with Giannis' family.

Toronto is the perfect city for him to be a Global superstar.

I think this is a complete pipe dream.

I obviously understand the relationship with Masai & Giannis but it's like some of you are being willfully blind to the facts...

Giannis isn't stuck on some middling team. He's on a team that just finished 1st in the EC, made the ECF and now his "LeBron" ie/ Kawhi, is already out of the way.

He's incredibly likely to make the NBA Finals at least once which will damn near impossible for him to leave especially when unlike Kawhi, he's publicly been preaching LOYALTY over n over to MIL who also just went and signed his brother for a greater emotional tug to stay. Unless we have some 2nd star (and I don't mean Siakam) that we can get interested in teaming with him, this won't even be as serious of a consideration as many of you are hoping.

Tbh I think if anything we should trade our vets for some youth & picks and be waiting to pounce when things go south in PHI with Embiid or who they already are going with KAT. But that's just me.
