Siakam grew leaps and bounds and was a borderline all-star in his third season. All indication show that he can be a #2 guy on a championship team (which he was in the finals) and he will only get better entering his 4th, 5th, 6th seasons. I can guarantee Masai was harping on this to him and he didn't even have to give up all those picks plus losing Siakam for a guy like Paul George. Sure Paul George is a better player today but would it be worth the risk for all those assets? No, it wouldn't. Also what if Leonard pulled a PG in a year and wanted out? Then what. Masai knew what was going on and read the situation quickly which is why we pulled out of the OKC leveraging.

I think the reports indicate that the Clippers were his first choice and there was no way he was joining the Lakers. That leaves the Raps as the backup option. I doubt he wanted to go to LA by himself and have to be in the much harder West and face Lebron/AD.

I’m not saying he isn’t good but there are too many flaws in his game and guys with way more raw talent that didn’t pan out to bet on him automatically becoming that caliber of a player and that caliber of a player right now. He had a great game 1 but Green took responsibility for that in the postgame, said it was his fault and Siakam never went off like that again.

Masai probably did feel that way but PG is proven and it’s essentially a trade for Kawhi and PG. That’s why you don’t really see the Clippers getting much flack for it. It’s possible but that’s always a risk with the way the league is today and I don’t think Kawhi who’s wanted to play with PG for a long time is going to just give up after one year or risk the damage that would do to his rep not just in the league/with fans but with other NBA players. From what I understand Kawhi and PG are actually good friends outside of basketball as well.

I’m not arguing there wasn’t risk. I just think the premise that Kawhi was asking for these things and would not sign under any circumstance doesn’t make sense.

There was no assurances from him. Whereas Woj reported Clippers got one. Simple as that. And even if Masai got that insurance, that proposed OKC deal (where they were being used as leverage mimd you) was complete garbage. You dont touch that especially when you have a budding star in Siakam. Not sure if you watched Siakam at all this season but he does not have many holes (you probably only watched the finals of him). He’s a rare player who can handle it, run the floor, create offence in the post and hit the 3. Just needs more reps shooting off the dribble. He’s very good and has already proven to be a #2 player on a championship team.

Masai did the right thing here and when we look back at this all, we’ll be lucky he didnt make a knee jerk pressured move.

Here's what would have happened.

Loss in round 2 = Fan feeling of constant doom and gloom because there's no way Kawhi is coming back. Just as they were going in game 4 and 7 of that series.

These expectations would be held for the next weeks as the playoffs conclude.

Then the big surprise is he's coming back. Massive fan celebration: "he chose us, we did it!".

Thus the fan emotion would be that of a giant jump than that of a fall.

All boils down to fan expectations.

Lol NBA players are so egotistical man. Somehow its disrespect and ungrateful to not give a man a whole **** statue for 1 season. Kawhi got enough love and adoration during the parade and the entire playoff run with fans showing up in droves to watch games on a screen outside the arena. He'll get his tribute vid and a standing O and thats it. Its not like he gives af about Toronto or its fans regardless.

Also how about how Vince did us (the fans not management)? He was total **** for half a season, didnt want to dunk anymore, gave away plays, fought Sam Mitchell (allegedy tbh) whined and complained and tanked his value so hard we couldnt get anything for him. And even after all that gets standing Os literally everytime hes here and had a fluff documentary made about him that romanticized his entire time here. Give me that "ungrateful" treatment like jesus.

This beta mentality regarding Kawhi is getting annoying now. It took two entities to win the 'ship, not just Kawhi. It took a great organization like ours to win it as well. Where was he without us two years ago? In the training room right?

**** sake, we gave the guy 22 games off. When he played, he didn't even play defence. The guys we drafted played defence. The best player in the Finals games 1 and 6 was a guy we drafted. We got like 10 dudes around him running through walls all year. We sacrificed two guys we drafted to bring in Gasol. What is Kawhi winning if Gasol doesn't absolutely devour Joel Embiid?

Ill say it again, LA was too much of a perfect situation for him in the end. I believe that if he didnt make that shot against Philly, he would have tag teamed with Irving on the Nets. He liked the idea going home, but he liked the idea of getting out of Toronto and joining another Star anywhere else, better. Kawhi never believed that the Raptors can go all the way, thats why he thought little of them all Season, and wanted other Stars to join him. Kawhi was just looking to raise his Stock, he felt guilty and hesitated multiple times to hold the ECF and Finals Trophy. In the Raptors eyes, the Championship was a blessing. In Kawhi's eyes, the Championship was a miscalculation.

I've said this before, even when kahhi was still on the team but lebron is the only player that I've seen take scrubs to the finals.kawhi is not on that level. He's a great player, but he's not the tppe to singlehandedly will teams to victory. Great scorer but not a geeat team leader.

I've also been saying this for years but masai built a great team around the wrong star. So when we finally brought in kawhi, all the pieces finally fit and it turned us into a contender. The point is that prior to kawhi we already had an elite team with elite role players and a good foundation.Kawhi didnt carry scrubs to the finals, he was just the missing piece. They deserve just as uch credit and I'm tired of the disrespect.

No statue is disrespect? No, statues and number retirements are for longer term icons.

Yeah Kawhi performed like an MJ-esque beast. It should be respected and appreciated, and acknowledged in the appropriate manner.

But I also don't like the attitude of, we did x and y, he should have appreciated it more.

When you do something the right way because you expect something in return, this isn't a good way to look at life. You do things the right way because it's the right way, and let the chips fall where they may.

I don't believe this is a prevailing attitude, but it's still painful to witness when it pokes its head up.
