I've seen it all year long as a VT fan and it's not even homerism. This dude will be a very good and it irks the heck out of me we passed on him. Sure Okeke is a solid player but NAW will be something special and was ready to contribute day 1. Okeke better pan out or it'll be another swing and miss by this FO

Glad I'm not the only one. Just 1 game, but maaaaan....NAW looked like everything we need: Defense, length, IQ, great passing, 3s, some iso scoring ability, energy, versatility....and he filled a position of need.

Keeping my eye on his development in NO.

It was only one game but let's see what happens and how defenses counter and what happens with Chuma Okeke.

If NAW looks like he did last night during the season, it will sting as he would fill a need well.

Again, let's see what happens though.

Super thrilled we have to wait a whole year AGAIN while other dudes are on the court. 2nd year will come the “its Chuma’s Rookie year” excuses then 3rd year the blame will be passed to well look who he has to play with. Rinse and Repeat

Not sure it will be a full year.

If Okeke doesn't make a huge impact or show signs and NAW keeps playing like this, it will sting for sure.

Yeah....if Okeke is a miss, and NAW shows the same game from last night, throughout the season...the FO will lose a lot of faith from the advanced fans.

Again, it's one game and he looked REALLY good. Let's see how he does.

Next Pelican game is wednesday, 7:30 ET, on ESPN2. I'll be tuning in for sure.

Yeeesh, just watched the NAW highlights. Looks like a stud. Unfortunately puts more pressure on Okeke from our fan base.

A lot of expectations being hurled out on Okeke/not on NAW after one summer league game.

I've got some Stanley Johnson stock to sell you from a few years ago.

Basically what I'm saying, the NAW stuff holds weight if it continues throughout the season and he looks like a legit player after his rookie year. I'm glad he looked good his first SL game though, I cheer for almost every new player.

Or Anthony Randolph or Jordan McRae or Malik Monk or Wayne Selden or Kris Dunn or Glen Rice Jr. or Josh Selby...

The list of summer league superstars is pretty long

It was nothing NAW did in summer league. Most wanted him because he provided things we lack and he looks already polished. I think he won the vote here on players we should draft. Of course if he goes on to be an allstar when he was the obvious pick and Okeke has a tough time coming back from the injury, it'll look really bad on this FO.

Of course it does. People wouldn't be bringing up NAW/Okeke talks right now if it didn't.

Okeke is balling out in SL. Good lord, looks great man.

But seriously, do you guys think WeltHam picks these "project" players so they can kick the can down the road with excuses? Smart plays to keep the job.

Yes with Madrid but he's not NBA STARTER level to be honest. Too slow.

Agree, could be rotation ,18-20 mpg player off bench on most NBA teams nowdays ,especially since he learned how to shoot (61/145, 41% for 3 in Euroleague last year ).

I dont think theres any doubt. All of their moves are kick the can down the road moves. Its very smart for job security honestly.
