They do, but thats the problem with extending Powell and signing Boban, they have a number of bodies, but none of them do the most important job of a big man, rebound and protect the paint. At least KP and Kleber can do the latter to a certain extent.

It makes me think that the pairings will be KP with Powell. Then Kleber with Boban coming off the bench. With that kind of pairing, you are assured that at least one big man knows how to play defense.

We survived years with Raef Lafrentz and Dirk upfront. We'll be okay.

If Memphis waives Jae Crowder, I can see us throwing the remaining money at him and have him play PF for us opposite KP. $14M a year for 2 years. Get it done Cuban.

Because all contracts are not officially signed yet. In case it is, the actual number is around 4-5M.

I meant we literally have too few frontcourt players. I know we won't be getting a star center right now. But if say KP gets injured, we're down to Powell/Maxi/Boban rotation. Boban can't play extended minutes, imagine Powell getting into foul trouble early and we're stuck playing small ball lineup with no rebounding and minimum inside presence on both ends. We need a big body, even if its Mejri on the minimum. Preferably someone better.

I know, but my point is, they could still sign or trade for players and then sign their own free agents.

And who's left worthy of a contract worth north of 10 mil?

Oubre, anyone? According to RC, the Mavs still has starting SF wide opened. DFS, JJ and TH are in mix. I believe none of them is a good fit as starter. Oubre has freakish athleticism to offer. This gives a potential starter who can chase somebody Doncic cannot. Offensively, Oubre doesn't need the ball to be effective. Oubre moves well and gets a lot of transition buckets a lot. The only downside is shooting. So far, the shooting performance in long range is less than spectacular. There's a reason for Pheonix not to match. But possibly not at 14.6M. The Mavs has to stretch Courtney for a chance. Similar player like Aaron Gordon gets 20M per. Of course, by the time, Gordon is more proven.

Dwight Howard
Dragan Bender
Nene
Trey Lyles
Dante Cunningham
Zaza Pachulia
Amir Johnson
Jonas Jerebko
Christian Wood
Jarrell Martin
Cheick Diallo
Kenenth Faried
Pau Gasol
Ray Spalding
Donatas Motiejunas
Greg Monroe
Tyler Zeller
Eric Moreland
Alan Williams
Tyler Cavanaugh
Ryan Anderson
Mike Muscala
Kosta Koufos

Names of the PF/C left unsigned to date.

The market is drying up. I'd bet some of those names could be had for the minimum. And we have $14M left.

Dwight Howard for the vet miinimum?

He's still good for 12ppg and 9rpg. IF all you want is a big body backup off the bench.

Absolutely not, the guy is toxic and every team who gets rid of him is happy to do so

The Mavs' $21M TPE has been reduced to $12M after the Delon Wright trade. Here is their current situation:

  • They can renounce that $12M TPE to go $14M under the cap, and spend $14M in free agency.
  • Or they can keep the $12M TPE to remain over the cap, and forego the opportunity to spend $14M in free agency.
There is no player left in free agency that is worth giving up the $12M TPE for. Not even Oubre. I'm not sure why anybody would want to spend $14M for a 6'7" small forward that has a career 32% average behind the arc.

Vet minimum signings from here on out. Any significant addition would have to be done through a trade.

Good point Bran Muffin.

IF we dont sign anyone else this summer, Im 99% positive that WIlly Hernangomez will be the next signing in 2020. Willy is really good friends with Luka and KP. Only 26. Ambidextrous in the paint. Should come cheap too.

Let's go get Cheick for as little as possible. Still young, per36 and advanced stats look spectacular. Really don't understand why the Pelicans just let him go.

Are we sure that we want the Mavs to just become a Luka & friends team? I think if the key here is to keep Luka happy and with the Mavs for the long-term the better option would be to build a perennial contender around him.

Also, never underestimate MJ's determination to give big contracts to mediocre players.

Unlike Salah Mejiri who became Luka's babysitter, Willy and Juancho Hernangomez can actually play and are young enough (25 and 26 years old) to be with the team. Earning $1.5M and $2.4M respectively. I think Juancho is a PF and WIlly is a C among the two. Both have range to the 3 point line.

For $1.5M? He easily replaces Boban IMO.

Side note: I know Luka said this before with his interview regarding the KP signing, but Luka plans to call some plays in Spanish this year as KP understands Spanish having played there before. Willy and Juancho played with Real Madrid too so there's that angle.

Still think center is more needed then SF. Would have loved grabbing TT from cavs, and not sure they would have said no, but after the Delon signing we cant afford taking him anymore(18m), reasoning that it would have taken cavs below cap.

I totally forgot about him. He'd actually be a darn good fit next KP. Can play either front court position solid rebounder decent defender. We could trade lee and a 2nd for him. Of course, don't know how mgmt feels about dealing with clutch.

I'm sure Cleveland would say yes to Lee (12 for 1 more year) for TT (18 for 2). But the team seems happier with the flexibility to pick up an asset facilitating a trade.

Also I don't know what goes on behind the scenes but I've never heard any rumor of us being linked in any way to a Klutch guy. I don't think Rich Paul has any interest in working with Dallas, which is fine by me because his business model is dangling a few stars out there to get "his" teams to pony up for his other guys. I'm not trying to get KCP on a $20MM 1-year deal shoved down our throats next offseason.
