Opting out of $3 mil for no real reason could end up being a real bad move by Nene.

The Rockets may be offering him more in a S&T so he can be used as a matching contract.

Dallas is IIRC the only team that can even offer him more than the MLE, so I wonder if his agent is keeping lines open with Donnie Nelson (even if it's just to keep the offer from Phoenix up). If Dallas looks elsewhere then the Suns may have a considerably easier time bringing him back.

the plan is to get as good as quickly as possible....I fully believe we could have been a borderline playoff team last year by adding young veterans....using or draft picks and cap space.....can I specifically tell you who? no.

I think NYK just want to be respectable considering their fanbase, exposure and the market they are playing.

The only team that's not deep on that list is the Rockets. They are a possibility. But I have to believe you could've gotten a late first just for cap space.NYG wrote:jbk1234 wrote:I have to say I'm not getting the strategy behind lottery teams doubling up on redundant role players when the the top contenders from each conference have no tradeable assets left. That next tier is solid though and can probably get some of these guys for expiring plus small asset... Boston, Brooklyn, Denver, Houston, Indiana, etc.

When you say tradeable assets, are you talking about picks and young players? Because I think every team has the second round picks or "meh" prospects necessary to trade for guys like Payton or Portis. What I don't understand is the idea of signing a role player to a $10 million deal with the goal of flipping him at the deadline. Most contenders simply don't have the necessary matching disposable salary. A lot of contenders might have interest in Ellington but not many have 5-6 million in useless salary to make it work.
