I think the argument being made is it wasn't he specifically that cost too much. It's the other guys that are being given priority because their contracts cost too much and they're unmovable. Not sure I agree with the philosophy because then if you ever do move the bad contracts you're left with nothing, instead of assets on more reasonable contracts. But you'd have to go into tax territory to maintain that philosophy and build.

Sounds like the outcome isn't necessarily fair to Wolves fans, depending how you feel about Jones. Personally I think it helps the team to have a guy like that coming off the bench. A lot of backups make similar money. But it's too bad the Wolves' past bad moves are still affecting their present moves and their future. As somebody mentioned about Thibs.

It can be a combination of both. The cap situation hurts the Wolves but Tyus is also limited to one position and he’s a below average scorer/shooter. He wasn’t worth the overpay with all the factors

PIPM says it wasn't an overpay while the other 3 didn't produce nearly as expected. It's just one metric obviously but is one of the best publicly available, and I respect it a lot more than PPG.

I thought my point was pretty clear, but I can try again.

82 games of Teague + Napier is better than 42 games of Teague + Jones + Rose + minimal minutes from Bayless, etc.

The key question is whether Teague can stay healthy.

I can understand that. My point was that Tyus+Napier could be as good for half of Teague's money.

So when combing your reasoning of the bold points here, logic follows that you think Jones + Napier could be as good as Teague + Jones, but that Jones + Bayless/Canaan/Terrell cannot be. That leads me to believe your a bigger fan of Napier than Jones.

Teague's price is already guaranteed for better or worse. Since we win well more than we lose with Teague even when RoCo misses games I think it's safe to say that Teague is better than Tyus, but even if not so it didn't matter. Teague was guaranteed Tyus wasn't.

Im high on Napier who I think is pretty comparable to Teague or Tyus impact wise. I don't like Bayless/Canaan/Terrell end they throwed out of games when Teague or Tyus were injured, which explains the better record with Teague (since Tyus was his backup).

The bad thing about Napier is we will have to pay market value for him as will do Teague.
Of the 3 I would prefer Tyus and Napier for cost.

I know Teague was on a guaranteed deal no matter what. They prioritized flexibility over lock a neutral player for MLE money who didn't reach his peak yet, who IMO becomes an asset and helps to win in case Teague is traded at the dead line or a PG gets injured.

So the pros:
To have 9M under the tax to do trades this season and 8M more in capspace for the next 2 seasons. Next season will be hard to be under the cap more than 10M (Will cost 1st rounders, rookie scaled players or Roco). 2021-2022 is likely to be helpful.

The cons are:
To not be very good this season (probably fairly bad depending on who fills up as 3rd PG) if Teague gets traded at some point or a PG gets injured.
Lose an asset on Tyus (which is debatable but is my opinion).

Poor McLaughlin just threw away an entire great game in 1 possession.

Good game. MN killing all these nerds as usual, I don't know why the other team even bothers to show up.

How many people can we bring to camp? Creek, McLaughlin, and Martin are starting to get comfortable. I wouldn't mind seeing them run with more of the contract players in camp.

Reid had a nice game, but you can tell he could be so much more if he had a proper gas tank. He's late out of position on a lot of possessions on both ends.

Glad to see them not match. You can't spend money on guys that don't move the needle if you want to have space for 2-3 star players.
You want your replacement level (or slightly above) guys to be on minimum or rookie scale contracts.

I get that stat guys love Tyus's metrics, which mostly come from not turning the ball over and above average steals.
But the eye test doesnt match those metrics.
If he played 20 years ago when you could still be physical, you wouldnt be able to play him.

I wish him the best in Memphis.

They did everything they could to trade up for Garland. Then they went all in after Russell. It's very clear they didn't view Tyus as a long term solution at PG and the decision to not pay a backup PG $8-9M per year was a prudent decision by Rosas. I really like Tyus but I trust what Rosas is trying to accomplish with this roster.

I dont share it was a good idea to not match him or better yet to not negotiate an extension for less, but I respect the decison. I dont think would be a franchise changing move either way so I wont question his long term plans. But to judge this move, we need to wait.

Are they going to need that capspace to get a better asset in the duration of that contract?
Are they going to be a neutral PG away of making the playoffs this season?
Will Tyus become an average or above 3pt shooter during that time?
How ready is Culver to be a main initiator in offense in those 3 years?

This are likely the questions that are going to answer if it was or not was a good move to not match Tyus.

Tyus gonna average 18PPG with 40 percent 3 point shooting, 2 steals, and 0.3 TO's a game confirmed next season.
