I would pass. I don't trust Roberson any more than Exum to stay healthy and I think if both are healthy they are equal defensively but I like what Exum brings to the table more on offense. We can find a guy like Patterson for free on the open market.
Roberson was the best perimeter defender in the league prior to his injury.
He was definitely a great perimeter defender but I felt Exum was pretty close. His knee issue is a huge red flag to me. Exum has similar red flags as well but I like his upside better.
To be honest, I'd dump Dante for any expiring contract, and if we can get a decent player out of it, that's a win. If we did this, and Conley opted for a smaller contract over more time (like Horford did), we could be looking at about $17 million in cap space. We'd have to resign Royce, but we could likely do that after using the $17 million. If we are close to being a contender this year (I think we are one) we'd be even better next year, and I don't see this trade as making us a worse team in the short term. But I understand still hoping for Dante to turn it around, he has tantalizing tools and seems to be a good guy.
