How is this good for Houston?

It's possible that it might not be, BUT, just based on health, Westbrook has played 80, 81, 80 and 73 games. Outside of the Patrick Beverley injury years, Westbrook is basically an ironman. When it comes to championship chances, health is a big factor, you generally have to stay healthy to win it all. Westbrook gives Houston a better chance of staying healthy and therefore, even if they have the same impact, though in different ways, the healthier player is the better player. With Paul being older and ageing every season, the impact is probably not the same.

I might be in the minority but i'd take CP3 over WB...Westbrook cant shoot like at all..I have a hard time seeing him change at this stage of his career..He'll probably do better with shooters around him. Will WB be ok with Harden handling the ball majority of the time?

This trade is so bad for Houston, I wouldn’t have even done CP for Russ straight up. That’s a terrible fit with Harden.

I am going to miss Chris Paul.

He's still a high impact player, just not as he was at his best, but the injuries are tough, and I'm assuming that is on Houston's mind. Of course this is the kind of situation where the player suddenly becomes the model of health after a trade like this, but history is not on his side. He's still more impactful than many people are imagining, and I'm not sold that Westbrook is much of an upgrade in anything but health...but actually being on the floor is the most important aspect of a player.

I wouldn't have said that Westy is a Mike D'Antoni-type player. I mean, he'll shoot the 3 with volume, and he can run the pick-and-roll, but he's kind of disruptive otherwise.

Had to happen. Paul is too old and too injury prone. Harden was wasting his energy carrying the entire team while max contract Paul was watching in street clothes.

Westbrook is worse than Paul but at least he is more likely to actually play which is better than nothing.
