Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
I could see us kicking the tires on Paul for sure. We need Snell though and we need to trade him to make deal work.

Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
I wouldn't be upset with it, but I doubt it happens. I think more realistically, something like Galloway and a protected pick to Memphis for Jae Crowder would be something huge for us, getting us a starting quality small forward on the roster. Enough to make the team competitive for 4-6 seed, which is like the ceiling of this damn team.

Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
The only way it makes sense for us to trade for CP3 is to ditch Blake. I gave up the ghost on CP3 as a Piston the moment we traded for Blake.

Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
I'd consider Chris Paul's contract to have negative value.
It's part of the reason they had to give up those picks to get Westbrook, who probably wasn't worth multiple picks given his contract.
No team with cap space would just willingly take back Chris Paul for nothing.
That said, Paul could be traded before the start of the season, but its not likely to happen until two months from now. That's when players who were just traded can be packaged with other players.
Paul + Cash + a future 1st rounder for Jackson, Snell, Galloway makes some sense for Detroit. But I can't see us giving up anything whatsoever of value for Paul. I think every team that is good wanting to be great is mostly set at PG already. I can't see many teams swinging for the fences with Paul so I think Detroit is a realistic landing spot but OKC is likely going to have to sweeten the deal for someone to take on that contract.

This would be nice. Preferably a 2nd rounder

We can do better. Reaching for the panic button, picking up a has been CP3 will not lead this team to the waters edge. Not even close. It's a mirage, folks.
Smart GM's will bypass Paul like the overpriced souvenir he is.

Can't see it happening because I'm pretty sure they'd ask Blake first, and he'd be all like "hell no". He likes his new point forward role, I think -- he had a nice season.

Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
The only two players I’d be interested in and think will be available this year is Russel and Beal, but I don’t think we have the assist for either. Let’s face it we need to tear it down..... I hate being a Pistons fan ever since Gores bought the team.

If we can get him for junk and maybe even get a pick out of it I'm game, he still makes others better.

I think we should try to get Bob Cousy. He was great?

Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
Chris Paul is still a fierce competitor and a pro, but man is he aging, and it doesn't look to go well. I could have at least seen an argument for the hail mary of Westbrook - this would be plain stupid. And really, I would demand a few first round picks to take Paul.

The only thing that makes sense is a Chris Paul to Washington for John Wall and picks.

CP3 is a better fit, but his contract is an extinction level event. A franchise killer.

It's what gets GMs fired, especially if CP3 is out again due to his annual hamstring event.
I doubt Ed wants to willingly get fired for this.

Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
Trading for CP3 probably isn't a great idea unless OKC is willing to give us a 1st rounder or two.

Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
I mean we would need assets back if we got him such as one of the first round picks, but I would definitely entertain that + our scraps (Galloway, Reggie, and snell).
Then we can give one of Lee or Holiday the min to play the 3.

Re: Trade for Chris Paul?
Beal and Paul to Detroit.
DET: Kennard, Sekou, Drummond, Jackson, Snell for Beal, Paul - Players to contend now with Blake
WAS : Beal for Kennard, Sekou, Jackson 2 FRPs from OKC - Young players and picks for Beal to start a rebuild
OKC : Paul and 2 FRPs for Drummond, Snell - off load Paul's deal, could likely move Drummond or Adams

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
