OKC to meet with CP3 & trade him to his preferred destination

Miami is the only logical choice as a team that both has the assets to make the trade and somewhere Paul would actually like to go.

I doubt it'd cost them the reported haul OKC was looking for for Westbrook though. Some expirings and shorter contracts, like Dragic, should do it, no need to include any of the young guys (including Winslow).

I'm calling it out here first:

MIA Trades: J.Winslow/Dragic/Olynyk/M.Leonard
OKC Trades: C.Paul and S.Adams

OKC adds a bunch of short term contracts and Winslow as the prized young guy to add to their core.
Miami adds two studs ready to win now.

Miami's starting 5 actually looks pretty decent after this, imo...

Cp3/Waiters/J.Butler/J.Johnson/Adams

Let them go sign Korver, Nene, and Shumpert for depth and I think they'd be the third best team in the East after MIL and PHI.

I don't think Miami has to throw any picks in. OKC is focused on the rebuild, and clearing out CP3 and Adams salary (and the massive lux tax coming with them) in one fell swoop is #1. Adding Winslow gives them the feeling that they got a nice young piece going forward, so to accomplish a rebuild and add a nice player ought to be enough on OKCs side.

OKC didn't trade the most popular player in there history for a couple of first round picks only to buy out Chris Paul. They are fully aware there is a trade market for Chris Paul. He is still one of the best PNR players in the league but rarely could play middle PNR in Houston. Still a strong defender. The third year of his contract is not an issue because its expiring at that point and has trade value. He easily should have 2 good seasons left in him.

I agree that OKC wouldn't buy him out but I doubt that there is a huge market for CP3 right now. His value is at best neutral (if not negative).

They should offer him 50c on the dollar and both sides call it a day

50c on the dollar is still around $70M. No chance that OKC pays him that much to NOT play.

Why would Pat Riley do this? Heat have good flexibility right now and can attract free agents. No need to pay CP3 40/year until he's 37.

I would definitely do it for them if JJ and Dion are included. I think both are serious overpays.

The market for CP3 will be very Boogie-esque. His best bet is to get bought out of that crazy contract and sign with a contender. The issue is that even buying him out at 50% of his original contract is still over $50 million which is crazy. CP3 really secured the bag. If I were him, Id screw the ring chasing and go out like Gilbert Arenas.
Its just too much money to agree to a buyout. I understand 10-20 million for guys as rich as him, but $124 million is just too much money....and at this point of his career, Id just rather have the money than the ring. Literally nobody except a generational talent like Kobe or Lebron would be able to get that type of a contract at 34 years of age.

Extended deal with Gallo also makes sense. It would take all 3 of Heat big contracts, Johnson, Olynik, Waiters, Dragic and Winslow. OKC gets off last year of cp3s deal, get rid of a potential malcontent and gets Winslow (nice player, but not really someone to build around.

maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see any team willing to buy out a 3-year/124M contract. And I sure can't see CP walking away from that money. Say he was willing to 'give back' 15M...that's 12%...that would still leave OKC sitting on 3 years of dead salary at 36M/year...ain't happening

I think that’s a good deal for both teams. As it sits now OKC doesnt have a horrible team. I think if they were in the east they could challenge for the playoffs. They have zero chance in the West however.
