Unclear as to what you're suggesting. Do you think they will be higher in the ranking or not make the cut? I don't see the Lakers, LeBron especially, overworking in the regular season as he will try to preserve his energy and avoid energy for a deep playoff run.

Fringe playoff teams that barely miss the playoffs

Interesting. You don't have the Lakers in the mix.

They will be a top 3 seed. The Lakers don't need Lebron to carry them in the regular season. They have freaking Anthony Davis - does anyone not know who he is? Its like everyone forgot how good he is.

The disrespect the Lakers get in this forum is abysmal. If you put them at 7th with the asterisk "I don't know what to expect," then THAT'S respectable. I haven't seen a single person do that.

My top 8:
1. Clippers
2. Blazers
3. Lakers
4. Warriors
5. Nuggets
6. Rockets
7. Jazz
8. Pelicans

Pop retires after the season.

You have the Nuggets fifth. What leads you to believe they would drop from last year's 1st ranking to 5th place? As for the Lakers, they're top heavy, which leads me to believe they're going to take a more cautious approach through the regular season.

Where exactly did he carry the Pelicans? Davis is great and all. But sans Lebron the Lakers are MARKEDLY worse than the Pelicans were.

Lakers are going to have serious problems with their bench.

Nuggets kind of fell off in the second half of the season last year. I think Nuggets will probably be top 3 though. They aren't a top 3 team in the west IMO. But their home-court advantage is a big deal and will carry them to more wins and a higher seed than they actually should be. Just too hard to win for road teams in Denver.

I really like the Nuggets, but the landscape of the Western Conference has changed drastically, and performance one year isn't necessarily an indicator of performance the next.

Also, Warriors are the Warriors. They are without Klay, but he'll be back at some point in the season. The Lakers and Clippers have changed drastically as well with way too much star power for the Nuggets. The Blazers? I just have a feeling it'll be a very good year for them.

I really don't even care. Damn this is depressing. Thank God NFL season isn't far away. Atleast one of my teams has a realistic chance of winning it all.

2. Clippers
3. Rockets
4. Nuggets
5. Lakers
6. Warriors
7. Blazers
8. Spurs

These would be awesome playoff matchups, although frankly any combination would be good. The 4 vs. 5 this year is guaranteed to be an awesome series

The Pelicans team with AD, Cousins, and Rondo was VERY good. Now, add Lebron. That's scary. Too many chumps on this website fail to recognize.

You're lucky you're in the AFC. Carson Wentz and the boys are gonna take a wrecking ball to the league.

Also, Saints are gonna be filthy this year.

An AD and LeBron pairing will assuredly be nice, but I'm confident how successful the supporting cast will be. AD was a great individual player in New Orleans, but I do not recall them having much success during his tenure there.

The Pelicans team with AD, Cousins with an untorn Achilles, and 2 years younger Rondo was a pretty good team. And Rondo was at best the fourth or fifth best guy on that team. Cousins isn't even close to that guy anymore and Rondo was not very good last year.
The Lakers will be very good by the end of the season but the Jazz and Nuggets at least will likely have better regular season records. They also rack up home wins when they're good to great teams.

Landscape changes aside I don't believe the Nuggets are going to lose much ground from last season, given their youth and continuity.

I don't get the love for the Jazz. Aging Mike Conley doesn't make them a #1 seed. Kind of shocking you put them in front of your own team, who is the best team in the league by miles and miles. Utah won't finish in the top 4. I would bet money on that.

Less Lebron?

Less Kawhi, the Clippers are a fringe playoff team.

Less Harden, the Rockets would not make the playoffs.

The list goes on and this is the case for numerous team. Somehow you are only holding the Lakers to this criteria? Makes no sense.

Their bench is very solid. I would not consider Rondo, Cook, KCP, Kuzma or Cousins (20 ppg scorers), and McGee a weak bench.
