To me Okeke looks like almost exclusively a three. Someone said he moves like Klay Thompson and I can see that comparison. Does anyone see that? He has that same kind of shooting stroke and very efficient movements.

Not only the 1-2 games but the workouts. He could've easily killed it during pre-draft and propelled himself into the lottery.tiderulz wrote:basketballRob wrote:Yes thank you. Looking at that last link it said he'd be a mid first round pick if he didn't suffer that injury. I still haven't seen an archive of a mock draft that showed him as a lottery pick. I think he was projected where we drafted him prior to the injuryBlue_and_Whte wrote:Thanks for doing the leg work on this.

which is on the edge of lottery and a fair statement. Who knows if he hadnt gotten hurt. 1 or 2 more games might have pushed him up more. there were quite a few people projected as lottery that dropped hard too, so a no-injury Okeke very well might have been a lottery pick. Not a top-10, but lottery pick

When did Okeke play SF ? Highschool? What makes you belive he can play SF in nba?
Also as soon as he comes back is in October of 2020
As long as Magic keep Aminu, Isaac and Gordon, Okeke won't recive more than 10-14 mpg
What does that have to do with anything? College position doesn't dictate NBA position. Have you not heard our FO & Clifford talk about how much they love his versatility? But yeah, 10-14 mpg sounds about right for a rookie second string player.
PG Augustin / MCW
SG Fournier / Ross
SF Gordon / Okeke
PF Isaac / Aminu
C Vucevic / Bamba
So Aminu at 29 will be playing 16 mpg ?![]()
Guy is career starter on 27 mpg, he didn't come to Orlando to be cheerleader
He may get more minutes while Okeke is out.
But he's a team guy. Weltman enforced that over and over. Glue guy. No other team gives him that contract. How do you get a vet to accept coming off the bench? You overpay him and that's what we did. He'll do what Clifford tells him to do and I guaran-damn-tee you that he's not getting starter minutes once Okeke breaks the rotation.

Yup and Klay played the 2 in between Curry and KD. I hope the Magic tones Okeke up so he can play at a lighter more athletic and versatile weight.

Re: Chuma Okeke drafted #16 by the Orlando Magic
Chuma didn’t even really look like a 3 in college and now at the next level he’s suddenly going to play SG and is also fresh off of an ACL tear going to beat out Aminu for minutes? If you say so... I think a lot of people here are going to be disappointed when he struggles to crack the rotation for more then 10-15 minutes per game this year.

You're right about the SG part, but I don't think many people are even expecting him to play much or at all this year. 15 minutes would be perfect especially with a frontcourt like we have currently.

tiderulz wrote:a Bruce Bowen type role is easily attainable by Okeke. i wouldnt want him to be a major ball handler right now, but playing hard defense, shooting the 3, being active on defense, that is easily within his skill set.
Bowen is a player who realized to make it in the NBA, he needed to be the guy doing the dirt work. His defense was almost cheap and disrespectful, but gosh darnit, it worked. And he "got paid" doing it *.
Orlando could profit from an enforcer. If Okeke is the guy here, great!
* = Bowen got 30M for being a thug. Power to him!

Alex Kennedy: Al-Farouq Aminu is drawing interest from the Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers, according to league sources. 2 weeks ago – via Twitter AlexKennedyNBA
Top Rumors, Free Agency,
He had other suitors ,he picked Orlando probably because he knows it's best place to get PT and where he will be able to get another contract after 3 years.
By the time Okeke is healthy, one of Isaac, Aminu or Gordon will be traded anyway.

On defense, he will guard the 2-4 slots. On offense, he will set screens and look to the offensive board, and hit an odd-3-ball now and again. Whether that's a SF.

He looked like a 3 to me. I'll actually be surprised if he plays much power forward in the NBA.PrimeThyme wrote:Chuma didn’t even really look like a 3 in college and now at the next level he’s suddenly going to play SG and is also fresh off of an ACL tear going to beat out Aminu for minutes? He resembles Klay a lot on the offensive end, whether he can guard the two or not I don't know. If you watch Klay and Chuma's offensive highlights they have the same movements and near exact shooting stroke.

Coming out of college Thompson wasnt known for his athletecism or foot speed and somehow he is one of the better team defenders. I think Chuma has similar defensive versatility and instincts. Why he cant guard bigger guards especially with Isaac behind him ?
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Just rewatched the Okeke intro video. It is very, very clear the Magic brass has enthusiasm. We will see.

He's kinda like Klay and Kawhi mixed together, small hint of LBJ.

You're exaggerating. Probably no way he ends up one of the greatest shooters like Klay, but he has the same mechanics.j-ragg wrote:He's kinda like Klay and Kawhi mixed together, small hint of LBJ.
I was watching the highlights of him scoring 32 of his teams 50 points in high school and I bet in his mind, he's a scorer waiting on someone to give him the green light.

and next year...
This guy is a F based on matchup, just like AG and JI. He’ll likely be a small ball 4 that struggles to create his own shot. That’s my biggest knock on this pick. For a team that severely lacks playmaking, the FO sure didn’t care to address that glaring weakness at all this offseason. Not only that, but unless moves are made I also have a hard time seeing this guy crack a healthy lineup of JI, Ross, AG,and Aminu. That’s not a slight to Okeke, that’s just simple math compared to players that already have defined integral roles on the team.

I’m dying laughing at people comparing okeke to hall of famers , how about we see if this guy can even crack the rotation before setting these high expectations . Lol

Re: Chuma Okeke drafted #16 by the Orlando Magic
The last thing I saw when I watched Okeke this year is Klay Thompson..if that’s what people are expecting his play style to be offensively I think they will be in for a huge disappointment.
