olynyk waiters and dragic for paul increases our payroll by 5m. we'd have to include patterson. or a third team to take dre.

Would suck to lose Dre. I still think the young guys need some leadership and Dre provides that, more than a bunch of randos from other teams who don't wanna be here.

For what it's worth, reports are that there are multiple teams involved.

Sort of amazing how quickly Chris Paul became Carmelo Anthony. Like a year ago he was still thought of as the point God. Old age is a b*tch.

I think the Thunder would be very hesitant to add pay roll. They need to get under the tax. They need to cut about $5 million in salaries.

I think it all depends on what we have to give up/what we can get back. It's not that terrible if we add 5 millions in pay roll considering the fact that Gallo will never end this season in OKC.

Chris Paul is still good at basketball though.

That's true. If he were making 15, even 20 million instead of 38-40 million he's already been traded by now.

Yup, if this was a $25 million dollar contract, it'd be pretty movable even with 3 years left. Morey was a crazy person to hand out that contract and it was pretty obvious the moment it was signed.

The Miami board has some pretty outlandish draft pick requests, but I'd be wanting something outlandish too if I were them. That team is just in a weird spot. Capped out with Butler, middling vets and a couple young dudes with decent potential (though way less than that board seems to think). To compete, they need more than Paul, and if they trade for him, they have basically no flexibility and few assets to improve.

Paul still performs on the court at max player level. CP3/SGA/Ferguson/Gallinari/Adams is a playoff level starting 5. Run that out there the first month of the season and you start to get the offers that represent the skill level of CP and Gallinari. Once the season starts player value changes to current team improvement mattering much more than potential contract issues down the line.

Miami is in a terrible spot because of the Butler move. They have no championship level building blocks, they owe draft picks and they are a fringe playoff team. Paul makes them a playoff lock for two years. Then Butler and Paul drop off too much. You aren’t getting FA help to come play with a 30+ Butler. Unless they are in play for some of Toronto’s pieces then CP is their best bet during Butler’s window of still being an all-star level player.

Unless Paul hurts himself. Which is somewhat likely.

Or his production falls off. Which is also somewhat likely.

It's a $120 million gamble.

That is EASY to clear. Stretch the corpse of Andre Roberson and you are out of the tax. $4.3M is nothing.

Agree that CP3 is still great but we wouldn't make the playoffs with him :
Lakers, Clippers, Houston, Portland, Utah, Denver, Golden State are way better than us then you have some teams like the Spurs/Dallas/kings or even Pelicans that could be better (even more considering the fact that it's almost impossible for both Gallo and CP3 to be healthy during all regular season)

I don't think they're a fringe playoff team unless Butler is out an extended period of time. As is, it feels like they're somewhere between 4-7 in the East.

But yeah, it was a strange choice to go after Butler. They painted themselves in a corner with the Olynyk, Waiters, and Johnson (both tyler and james) contracts.

come on man. you know this isn't happening. sam presti traded westbrook within a week. he's not sitting on his hands waiting on chris paul to possibly regain value. he's gone before the season starts.

It would be really nice if Paul and Griffin didn’t hate each other’s guts.

Exactly what I've been thinking. If I was Miami, I'd play hardball because I can't think of anyone else in the market for Paul's contract.
