We're well and truly into the part of the season where we basically just play the AL East for three months. Yay.

I doubt it's at all serious. They could've back-dated a DL stint long enough to allow him to come off at basically any time, given that he hasn't pitched since the 4th. I'm guessing that it's as much an excuse as anything.

Following this afternoon’s game, the Blue Jays have optioned 1B/DH Rowdy Tellez to Triple-A Buffalo, per Gregor Chisholm of the Toronto Star. The move leaves the team without its everyday designated hitter. A corresponding roster move has yet to be announced.
