Re: Official Offseason thread Vol 3: Bck2BACK
I’d love to get 2 picks and Paul. We’d have a top 4 team in the East with possibly two all stars, a GREAT young core and assets.
It’d be one of the best off seasons we’ve ever had If we can pull this off.

So in other words Chris Paul gonna rot away on a lottery team one of his last 2 really productive seasons! good looks to do that to the head of the players association

This. Would be one of the wildest turnarounds considering our lack of draft assets, net negative players on crap contracts and cap sheet from hell. To gain our picks back and 2 all stars and not giving up any youth would be almost as improbable as summer 2010

Can't lie, I'd take 1 pick and Paul as long as it didn't include Winslow/Waiters

No Herro, Winslow, Bam & Jones. Waiters can leave for me, can’t have Butler, Paul and Winslow handling the ball with Waiters staying happy.

This is why i can't imagine him coughing up those picks in order to take on our scraps now without Winslow just to get rid of Paul.
Only way I can see Presti getting Paul off the books is by losing two picks. Perhaps Presti valued Houston’s picks 5 years from now because Harden and WB will be done by then over our picks that we most likely be 15-25 range.
I think he's holding onto his warchest of picks and finding a better way to use them instead of having to dump Paul which he absolutely does not have to do at this current time. Paul can bitch and moan all his wants. He's the one who signed that contract without a no trade clause. Maybe he takes a buyout.
Even if he's bought out his contract still hits the salary cap for the remaining 3 years.

I could be wrong but if we get Paul and eventually send off Winslow in a separate deal or as part of the trade to get 2 1st rounders, we will have max cap in 2021 to throw at One max fa such as Beal

Actually sorry no we don’t, I forgot about bams cap hold since he’s a fa that year, in that case a deal for Paul wouldn’t work unless it was somehow made into a three way where we land Beal or another star

Re: Official Offseason thread Vol 3: Bck2BACK
I really don't want Chris Paul's contract on the books. Really wish we could have a scenario where he changes that option to a team option, getting out in 2021 would be amazing. What about these scenarios though:
Heat trade Dion Waiters and James Johnson for Chris Paul, Denver's 2020 pick, Miami 2021 pick, Miami 2023 pick
Heat trade Justise Winslow, Goran Dragic, Derrick Jones Jr. Miami 2020 pick (since we now have 2021 restored we can move it around), Denver 2020 pick for Bradley Beal
or
Heat get: Bradley Beal, John Wall
Thunder get: James Johnson, Goran Dragic
Wizards get: Chris Paul, Justise Winslow, Derrick Jones Jr, Miami 2021 pick, Miami 2023 pick, Miami 2025 pick, Denver 2020 pick.

What about Kevin love? If we could get him and a pick for Olynyk and James Johnson, then even though he’s on the books we could still have max cap for one 2021 fa if we got rid of Winslow in a trade

The OKC CP with Miami deal is a match made in heaven since they would essentially be giving our picks back to us for the bother. One of which is a definitely back end of the 1st pick and the other (2021) likely is as well with our current upward trend. Not to mention how CP can bring out the best of our players.
Not sure about KLove being worth the trouble other than he fits nicely next to Bam.

Only problem I see with cp3 is it takes us out of the running for 2021

If Winslow, Bam and possibly Herro develop like we believe they can then does it really matter about free agency 2021?
If Paul comes Bam and Herro will be getting some great looks, it’s a dream come true for a 19 and 21 year old to get the looks they’ll be getting. Bam will be getting lobs and open dunks all season long, I can honestly seem him being a 15 & 10 guy easily with Paul. Winslow can learn a lot from Paul also, in Paul’s final year he might be overpaid but Winslow can take over the reins as starting point if need be by then.
Butler is also a high mileage 30 year old due to his style of play on both ends and playing under Thibs, he can’t be controlling the offence every play. He needs some help and Paul this season and next season will be giving him an All-Star level type of help, perhaps not in his third year but you never know.
If we can net one pick and get Paul for fillers I do this trade, not the first time we could take an all star that seems done (Hardaway).

The idea is to not wait to 2021, but trade for said player in advance with the expiring contracts we still have left and the picks we get from Paul + one possible player out of our good youth. If we pull this trade it’s to make the move in the next year.

Re: Official Offseason thread Vol 3: Bck2BACK
Let’s say we send Winslow, 2 picks, and fillers next summer to Washington when Beal makes his intentions known... we can have a lineup of:
Paul
Beal
Butler
Bam
KO
With a bench of DJJr, Herro, KZ, Nunn, Robinson and the MLE we still have to spend.
That’s a good 2020 offseason if you ask me and makes 2021 pointless. We can then later move CP3s expiring contract with some more assets in his last year for another’s player we want or wait it out and use his cap space in 2022.

Having to stretch Ryan Anderson’s contract will hurt come 2021...I imagine Heat plan on making moves before then.

Well, it does if it was purely a cap space issue.
I think it's still doable...if we get multiple firsts back if we take on Paul. His contract will be an expiring...if we want a player, we potentially could attach those firsts in a S&T. It would make it harder no doubt, but I think with Paul's contract expiring, it may be a bit more tolerable at that point to another team that may be looking to reduce future year salaries.

Agreed. If we make a move for Paul, it’s under the assumption that we are going fishing with those picks and scrapping 2021 free agency plans.

Re: Official Offseason thread Vol 3: Bck2BACK
Getting our future first rounders back would be huge as we search for our second star.... being that they are our own picks, it gives us the ability to trade any pick from 2020 and beyond. We would have full flexibility again and a cupboard full of picks and young players. This must be what Pat wants to leverage from OKC, otherwise it makes no sense to us to strap our franchise on both the financial and assets side of negotiations.
