Bad contact isn’t the same as bad player and vice versa. That’s where message boards get a little off base, imo. That being said, Chris Paul hasn’t done himself any favors with his off the court shenanigans.

Why are we talking about Paul's character like he's Javaris Crittenton? He's a bit of an ass, but until very recently he's garnered a lot of respect around the league as a professional.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Yes his contract is bad and some of the hate is the rumor that as president of the players he only care for himself and the supermax and the roleplayers dont matter , and he can be an ass*#* in court and offcourt with some teammates

Paul should just surrender to the fact that he probably is never going to win a title and the only thing worse than being a superstar who retires without ever winning it all is retiring a superstar who garnered a rep as a team killer and locker room cancer. Whatever happens, be professional about it. It's not too late to repair the hit his rep has taken.

I just don’t see a need to attach an asset. Over the next 2 years having that contract on our books isn’t awful. By the 2021 draft he is an expiring deal in a loaded free agent class. Who else do you want to give the money too before 2021?

The biggest problem is winning /draft position and team problems with cp3 on the team. I dont see anything bad sending a pick if we get something good in return

I think a lot of fans are forgetting this is a business. The rebuilding process is going to have a negative impact on revenue. Eating $120 million for a non-contributor is the kind of loss that would affect any business on earth. It turns the bagmen gun-shy.

The closer the thunder stay to being in the black while keeping flexibility, the more likely management is to spend when it makes sense to spend.

Keeping a disgruntled Chris Paul has a negative effect on culture, and doing so for three damn years on a team that will be filled with young players isn’t just a sideshow. It is the kind of distraction that teaches everyone else to be disgruntled and selfish.

Cut the cancer out even if you have to lose assets to do so. Take that flexibility and trade it for solid vets with contracts the other team needs to get rid of (like the clippers just did and many other teams have done in the past) and rebuild the assets you lost to get rid of Paul.

In doing this, you’re putting yourself in a situation to draft high, which for at least the next two years is imperative if you want a shot at a superstar. It’s the most likely way we end up with one, and with restricted free agency, it’s the most likely way you keep one over the life of two contracts.

Don’t be impatient in trading him. If you have to play him for a couple months to improve his value, do so. But keeping him for the length of his contract is bad business and bad team building.

Not really good news if they want both. One is fine though :)

2021 miami pick could be worth a lot. Miami is really bad with some bad contracts with still 2 years left on their deals. No good free agent next year.

Let CP3 play with the Heat on NB2K and we will have a nice pick in 2021. Then we can trade him during his last year for a desperate contender (or even next offseason when almost every team miss on free agents because it will be the worst free agency class in years)

If this guy has real sources I predict the Russ trade will be formally announced (according to that Clutch Fans twitter Russ was seen in Houston yesterday last couple days, likely down there for the physical) and then somewhere inside of 36 hours later a trade for Paul will be reported by Woj. Just a prediction.

The Thunder have to pay 90% of the salary cap every year. Why give an asset away to trade a star-ish player if we still have to pay out that money? I just don't see the need to do this especially since a deal with Miami won't help in getting under the cap.

I think the Thunder would be willing to take on a salary that matches every penny that CP3 is going to make. But, that's not really a contract out there other than Wiggins.

To call CP3 a cancer is a little early. I think you can do some stuff with him where you say we will load management you and try to deal you on December 15th to a team of your liking.

The only thing I would do with the Heat is move around the two picks. So they can get 21 and 23 back if they give us 22 and 26. This way Miami can still trade their 20 and 24 at a later date in the season.

Taking back the contracts of Waiters and Olynyk are negative assets as well. But, having Dragic on an expiring is ideal because just like Gallo, I think the Thunder would be able to acquire firsts for both of them.

Why has the whole, 'OKC has to trade Paul because he wants that' discussion thus far focused only on the Thunder's responsibility to make this happen. To the extent agents can pressure an organization to do certain things why can't the agent also pressure Miami (for instance) to do the deal and back down from a demand of excess draft picks? Is it just because we presume Pat Reilly has no problem telling agents to screw off whereas Presti has shown a clear willingness to give in to players and agents time and again?

The off season is pretty boring when you aren't blowing up your team every other day.

This. If teams are not willing to trade for CP3, they can't blame OKC/Presti.

Why would we trade an huge amount of assets for the well being of a player we don't owe anything?

(and we are talking about a guy that already made several hundred of millions in the NBA and had the shot to contend (and to choke) several times, it's not like we are preventing a poor young guy that wants a shot in the NBA for his first contract).

If nobody is willing to trade for him, he can stay for the money or get a buy out to contend somewhere else.
