Buy, Sell, or Stand Pat?

Post#1 » by humanrefutation » Sun Jul 14, 2019 9:52 pm

Poll up top.

As of this post, we're 2.5 games behind the Cubs in the NL Central and 0.5 games out of the WC. We're still in the race, but have had a disappointing six weeks or so of baseball. If we decide to sell, we could probably get a nice return for Grandal and Moose, among others, especially with so many other teams still in the race. However, we could also turn it around with some smart acquisitions and be in the thick of it going into September.

What say you?

Should sell but won't. Could get some nice players for Grandal and Moose. So I voted stand pat, there's no way we should be buying.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Honestly they might have to buy bullpen arms just to save face with the fans and at least pretend to stay in wild card contention.

The organization has put itself in a very bad spot.

Good thread. My two cents? I’m sooo proud of this team.

Not. (say it like Gareth from the English office)

Sell.

Can we make it look like we are selling but get some solid young arms that are in the MLB or near?

Go ahead and trade Grandal and Moose and see what arms we can get?

Questions. Just Questions.

Travis Shaw and Manny Pina can handle 3B/C. Not saying Shaw will turn it around but who cares at this point. We need pitching for the future..

Sell and re-tool for next year. Can’t waste a player like yelich in his prime winning 60 games. But he also has to be smart enough to know that this team is not going anywhere as currently constructed. We hit lightning in a bottle last year and choked and made some bad moves in response to that.

Sell baby sell. Sell now so that you DON'T waste a bunch of years of Yelich in his prime. We will if we keep rolling with this crap, and it's not going to suddenly get all better. The minors are barren.

I don't think they'll sell because they don't want to depress attendance going into the next two months. The optics of doing so while still in the race would be hard to stomach for some of the casuals.

But with the market as competitive at this one, I'd be quietly shopping Moose and Grandal to see what kinds of prospect packages we could get back from a team desperate to make a playoff push.

Tough spot to be in... kind of feels like they backed themselves into a corner with all the trades and not addressing pitching at all. If they don’t bring back Moose and Grandal next year, the offense looks like ****. They might be your best trade chips, but I wonder what the approach is with guys like that if you hope to bring them back next year.

Considering most casual fans hated the Grandal signing no one should care, right?
Moose, yea casual fans wouldn't like.
I originally said we shouldn't sell, but my mind is slowly changing.

It's been disappointing to read a lot of mid-season top prospect lists and not see a single player from the Brewer organization. It's time to re-stock the system and guys like Moose, Grandal, and (gulp) Hader could help immensely.

People will, and should, show up to watch Yelich. You can get rid of anyone else and try to get better for next year.
