I agree with you— we put out a damn good defense with IT. Stevens calling card is D and Ill bet we show up this year.

People forget that with one of the worst defensive players on the planet, the Celtics team was a top defensive team. Because they played as a team. And rebounded. This year Kyrie was bad on defense, but he could play if he wanted to and usually didn't. Calling off guys to take on Giannis? please....

Kanter is a net negative on defense, Smart and Walker both take a lot of charges. I can see Kanter working on this too. Individually we might not have a great defensive team, but we have smart/JB/Timelord who can be great and a coach that can make a scheme to play good defense. Remember Rozier wasn't lying. What they did in practice wasn't what they did in games. Offense and defense. He wasn't wrong. IT wasn't CBS offense or defense schemes, it was players choosing not to do them.

They did emerge very quickly as plan A and we got them both. Some good luck to balance out the bad.

Here are the Cs players with the top 10 most minutes in the season when we had a top 4 defense -- IT, Bradley, Crowder, Turner, Sully, Amir, Smart, KO, Jerebko, Zeller.

It can be done.

No thank you. Jaylen Brown is going to have a big year and if he does the Celtics will have no issues paying him.

He has never proposed a trade that made us better, I don’t get it

You’re underrating Winslow’s defense, upside and versatility and overrating Jaylen’s upside relative to fit. The 2021 draft is also very very good.

How could he possibly have more upside than brown? and relative to fit? Winslow had succes last year in Miami towards the end of the season playing point believe it or not.

I mean be low on brown but I’m talking about moving him for allstars not disappointments

Not doing any of that. I just watched Jaylen the last two years in the playoffs and would want him over Winslow every day of the week

If Winslow still has upside so does Brown. You tend to overrate players who, what is that word.... stink

Don’t care about the 2021 draft and neither should you

I didn’t say Winslow has more upside, but he has enough that I think of it as a realistic trade. He’s not even a year older than Jaylen, he’s super-strong, next level defensively, and he’s shown some serious secondary playmaking ability. I think he’s probably a lock to be a 15-17 ppg scorer, maybe better - will be able to guard and play four positions. And if we’re not dealing Hayward, we have the problem again of too many scorers and not enough basketballs. It’s very hard right now to imagine an offense where Jaylen Brown is going to be satisfied. I’ve also cooled on his ceiling to the point that I’ll be surprised if he makes the leap from no-vision Harrison Barnes to George/Butler/Kawhi in being able to create his own shot and carry an offense.

greenroom31 wrote:Forget about positions and just look at personnel and matchups. The top two teams in the East (at least on paper) are Milwaukee and Philly. The question is how do we match up against a lineup of:

Simmons / Richardson / Harris/ Horford / Embiid

Well, I don't think it's that bad. They are also going to have to guard the C's and that isn't going to be a cakewalk. On defense, the C's can match up...mostly...especially with Smart, and other reserves, mixed into the lineup.

In the past, Kanter actually matches up well with Embiid, both score a lot on the other. All in all they actually balance out.

Simmons can't shoot outside and only really scores on the break, if the C's break back, he's mostly neutralized. In the half-court I take Kemba/Smart/Brown to shut Simmons down.

The Wings, Richardson and Harris, aren't going to over match some combination of Brown, Tatum, and Hayward. In fact, I'd put my money on Brown, Tatum and Hayward over matching them.

Horford is a wildcard, true, but I don't think he's going to be that much of a difference maker. If the C's and 6'ers run, I think the C's have the advantage over Horford. In the half-court, I think a second big might have to be in to deal with Al, but the C's have Theis, Williams x 2, and even Semi might give Al some trouble.

We will have to see how the games play out, though.

Go compare Embiid vs Kanter. They are much closer than you seem to think.

Maybe - but this board also has a history of underrating young players who don’t immediately deliver - Avery Bradley sucked, Marcus Smart sucked.. I don’t think the Brown-Winslow gap is enormous, though even if Brown puts up a Harrison Barnes style stilted 18 this year, he’ll get star status because it’ll be on a winning team and he’s been on a different trajectory.

Why don’t you care about the 2021 draft? And what’s a preferable Jaylen-for-an-allstar trade that makes us better, where we’re also giving up Marcus Smart?

Yep, that's a wildcard for sure. Does anyone really know if Poirier can give the C's Baynes minutes? Can he be better? We'll just have to see once the games start, I guess.
