Here is why it's important IMO for Winslow to start rather it's point or at wing. Have Winslow defend the best wing instead of Butler will allow Butler to be the best of himself offensively.MettaWorldPanda wrote:I'm telling you all right now. 7-11 is going to be starting and thriving with buckets this year. Keep dropping Winslow into your fake starting lineups all you want. Winnie is going to captain the second team and be the swiss army off the bench. Riley basically told you all to stop penciling Winslow into where you want. I think Winslow has a great year for the record and will be the reason we win a ton of games but it's going to come as 6th man of the year.

I agree with this, Justise Winslow is going on year 5, and we just extended him, meaning that we are invested in him moving forward. He finally found his calling card last year at the point, and he exploded.
It’s time to stop being cute. Let Dragic and Winslow duke it out in camp yada yada, but ultimately Winslow should get the start, and Dragic can be the 6th man off the bench, thriving with the 2nd unit, while increasing his trade value as an expiring contract.
But like Twix mentioned you have Winslow taking the defensive pressure off of Butler, and there’s no reason why Butler can’t be a 25ppg scorer in our system.

I think it's more important for Winslow to captain the defense off the bench with DJJ. Especially when we have guys like Leonard and Herro on the floor. Winslow will be mixed in with Butler when Dragic needs to rest. I see Winslow on the floor plenty this year but it's not going to come as a starter. With the way Waiters looks and Riley's words already on Dragic I think Winslow will have to out perform Waiters by a landslide in camp in order to get a starting spot. Waiters don't look like he's coming in this year to come off the bench. Winslow has his work cut out for him based on what i'm seeing out of Waiters.

The old man does not agree with you. We invested into Winslow but he's getting paid like a role player. His extension does not preclude a starting spot. Read the tea leaves. The organization during exit interviews Spo clearly came out and said that he was not going to label Winslow as a PG and Riley called Winslow by name saying the media already had him pegged as the starting PG and he cleared the record for everyone saying Dragic was his PG. What more has to be said?

BP didn't mention that Dragic and Olynik were the only 2 players going out.
I wonder about the possibility of OKC coupling CP3 with another unfavorable contract as an incentive for them which would then require Mia to include another player(s) to match the money.

Dion Waiters is not starting over Justise Winslow. That isn't happening. He isn't starting period, if Dragic is still on the roster by the begging of training camp. Not to mention, Jimmy Butler's best position is the 2 guard. Waiters is someone this team has been actively shopping, there are just no takers yet. He's not a priority.
And Winslow isn't a point guard, but he's a wing who will be used as a secondary creator. He'll have his opportunities. That's a player asset that the organization needs to continue to appreciate.

Looking at the box scores towards the end of last year and looking specifically at the 4/23 game against Boston. It looks like when J Rich came back too soon he was inserted into the starting lineup over Winslow who also looked like he was returning back from injury but Winslow was the one who was coming off the bench. J Rich, Waiters, and Dragic were the starting three at guard and wing. Winslow played 23 minutes minutes that game to Waiters 42. J Rich gets hurt again and Winslow is inserted into the three spot to close out the year. Just saying it's not as cut and dry as you make it out to be. If J Rich does not injure himself again in that game we could have been looking at J Rich, Waiters, and Dragic closing out the year starting and Winslow coming off the bench. Basically a precursor to what we might see this year with Butler in J Rich's place.

Windhorst is pretty clueless about OKC basketball but in this case, I hope he's right. I don't want us to give up our picks to dump him and you guys don't want him without getting back your picks. Seems best for everyone to wait until the deadline and see if we can get value.

I think the only reason why they are considering Dion off the bench is because of his ball stopping tendencies. Dion will be solid as an off shooter if he is OK with that role.
I look heavily at ortg and drtgs for players and understand some players are getting better, some in their prime and some on their decline, D.Waiters has always been a net negative in those. He's a career 98 ortg, 111drtg and seems to stay close to those every single year, that's not good. I live in OKC but not really a fan of theirs(maybe soon) and go to a few games each year, I've had the Waiters experience with KD and Westbrook and it wasn't great, he was supposed to be a spacer there also, hence them letting him leave. I hope if there's a CP3 trade, he's 1 of the 3 contracts sent out, Dragic, JJ, and Waiters.
With the current roster, give me Dragic, Butler, Winslow, Olynyk, and Bam, that's good defense, 4 players who can hit 3s and 3 possibly 4 playmakers, that's a team that should be able to keep games close vs basically anyone and allow Butler to give them a shot to win at the end.

I never thought it made sense to trade Westbrook for picks only to have to give picks back in order to get rid of Paul. I feel like Paul ends up being a pleasant surprise for your team. You guys are 2 million away from getting out of the tax. You have no reason to press the panic button and give any quality 1st round assets away. I want Paul sure but i'm also looking at things from your end too.

So Jimmy B doesn’t get Westbrook or Paul, but he does get T-Rex Tyler , Bam ,point Winny, Skinny Waiters, and The Dragon who no one wanted . Damm hopefully the first 3 become all stars soon cause if not Jimmy B going to be lonely.
Unless Skinny Waiters makes us all eat crow for wanting to trade him
And the Dragon no one wanted gives Dallas and the rest of the NBA second buttholes

If CP3 isn't being moved it's Dennis Schroder watch time. This should be interesting, 3 pgs, one the future(SGA), one a top PG currently(CP3), and another who doesn't want his money messed with(not getting minutes to produce). Might have to start listening to some local sports talk again.

• Jun 21, 2019: Riley says, "...Right now Goran's our starting point guard.".
• Jun 30, 2019: Riley trades Goran to the Dallas Mavericks, but is unable to complete the transaction due to Mark Cuban pulling an eleventh hour bait-and-switch, killing said trade.
When it comes to players on the HEAT and their futures with the team, I tend to take what Riley says about them with a grain of salt. He's never been one to reveal exactly what he's thinking or intends to do.

Butler really doesn't care about all-stars, what he cares about is their effort level so they can compete as a team and Wade sold him on that with Miami and how they do things. If he cared about all-stars he would have stayed in Minnesota with Towns or Philly with Embiid(and Simmons) or even teamed up with Kawhi in LA(one of his destinations he asked for in Minnesota).
